Here's a #vorthos thread of Magic Legends you may not realize are still alive (or at least, aren't confirmed dead):
1) Axelrod Gunnarson. Axelrod falls into "no additional lore" camp, so there's nothing placing Axelrod on the timeline or even on a plane.
2) Rubinia Soulsinger. She has a short blurb, but nothing tying her to a plane or time, and as a faerie her lifespan isn't the same as a mortal's anyway.
3) Gabriel Angelfire. The subject of the original church of Benalia on Dominaria, back when Serranism was outlawed. Gabriel has never appeared in a story, but also hasn't been confirmed to be killed.
4) Lord Magnus's description describes him as an old human druid who is the avatar of one of Dominaria's many woods. Like Greensleeves, he's probably a maro-sorcerer now.
5) Bartel Runeaxe. Another original Legend with very little associated lore, divorcing him from a time period.
Please note that the set "Legends" canonically takes place all over the Magic timeline, from ten thousand years in the past to just a few centuries ago. It's not a stretch to imagine some of them could be 'modern' characters.
6) Jerrard, another "no lore = not dead yet". Although given we already have more prominent Gerrard, Jarad, and Jared, I don't know what the likelyhood of this one coming back is.
This could be a New Benalian character.
7) Livonya Silone. For some reason the Wiki calls her pre-mending, but she has no lore beyond what's in her flavor text, and could easily be a modern character.
8) Riven Turnbull, another 'no lore = not dead yet' character.
9) Tuknir Deathlock. Like Dakkon and Sivitri, it's possible that Tuknir is a planeswalker. Heck, his only lore could describe a post-omenpath explorer.
10) Ur-Drago is an elemental banished to the Abyss, but not destroyed. Given we have the Ur-Dragon and the confusion this card already causes, I don't know if we'll ever see it again.
That's it for the Legends Legends. I'm not including characters we've seen again already confirming them being alive, or in some cases undead (like Ramirez De Pietro).
11) I like to imagine that somewhere on Dominaria, Lim-Dul the Raven Man is enjoying the ocean breeze on his skeleton ship.
12) Marit Lage's (lack of) status meant she was a fun one to use for the Boom! Comics.
13) NOT. DEAD.
We know nothing about a Phelddagrif, and this one could still be chilling somewhere.
14) This one seems obvious, but the centuries old vampire isn't dead yet, we just haven't seen him in decades. He does show up in the Boom! Comics in a one-shot teaming up Liliana and Sorin to stop him.
15) Less obvious is Irini, his dwarf 'daughter', the princess of the dwarves that Sengir turned to vampirism. She's likely with him on the 'dwarf plane' they went to during the Mending.
16) Ihsan's Shade was spotted around the time of the Mending (or at least, something matching his description was). Probably still with his master, Sengir.
17) Eron the Relentless is immortal, and could still be around somehwere.
18) Autumn Willow and her daughters are avatars, not mortals.
19) Basically anyone who could have been in Zhalfir when it phased out could still be alive. We haven't confirmed Rashida yet, I don't think.
20) Could have been phased out
21) If it was close enough to the coast, but also as a sea monster who knows how long Taniwha lives.
22) Could have been phased out
23) Vampire! Not confirmed dead, and even hinted at being alive around the time of Prophecy.
24) This is a summoned being that we haven't seen killed.
25) Disappeared, implied to have survived the Mirage War. Could be phased out or could have lived out her cat life elsewhere.
26) Confirmed to be alive in Zhalfir, but we didn't see him on cards.
Side Note: I did a LOT of research on who might or might not be alive on Zhalfir. If I didn't name someone, there's generally a good reason.
27) Molimo is confirmed to still be kicking it on Dominaria.
28) Given we've seen Rith and Darigaaz, the other three all seem likely again one day. Two of them just flew off at the end of the Invasion cycle.
29) No Lore = Not Dead
30) If Nemata is still around, I'm sure Vedeloth is too.
31) I can't imagine this guy is dead. Again, no lore.
32) This is described in similar ways to other beings who became Maro-Sorcerers, so I'd like to think Thriss is one now too.
33) None of the Pit Fighters would seem to have normal, mortal life spans. And we know the fifth, Rorix, is around and undead.
34) I don't even know. Maybe?
35) Okay this one is weird, so hear me out. At the end of the Mirrodin cycle, Raksha is revealed to have been reincarnated back on the plane the elves, humans, and leonin were stolen from. So technically THIS guy is dead, but he's been reincarnated with the same name.
There are many Kamigawan characters. Basically anyone who isn't a mortal and confirmed dead could still be around.

Woof. Note than Moonfolk live EXTREMELY long lives, and many who were alive for OG Kamigawa could still be around, hence why they're on the list.
I might have missed a kami death here or there in this list, though.
I've lost count on the numbers but Garza Zol was an Ice Age vampire who was never killed.
Mangara is not Zhalfirin, but he could have been phased out with Zhalfir, like Kaervek was.
Kaervek is explicitly confirmed as both alive (having been in the Amber Prison phased out on Zhalfir) and free!
Oh and I forgot to mention Dakkon is explicitly confirmed as being alive, or at least Dihada thinks he is.
That brings us up through the Mending. Characters beyond that are obviously unlikely to have died of old age, yet. Except for the Lorywn elves, they're all dead cause they only live 30-40 years and OG Lorwyn was 40 years ago in-universe.
It's possible I made some minor mistakes here, but I believe this list is 99% correct.
Oh! And Cuisines of the Multiverse, while not 'pure canon', does confirm that Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar is still alive and working on a new cookbook. She spent a lot of time in hell and there's not timeframe for her OG story otherwise.
It looks like I completely forgot to tackle 'old characters with new cards in supplemental sets' so I should also mention there's no reason to think Garth One-Eye is dead.
Oh I have another, extremely unlikely one given he didn't show up again during Dominaria United: Tahngarth was mutated by the Phyrexians, who often modified their servants for agelessness or at least increased longevity. UNLIKELY THOUGH!
There's a dragon engine in Invasion of Mercadia attacking Phyrexians, heavily implying Ramos is still kicking, too

Alright let's talk about some basic facts about Wizards and art. Let me be clear, this is all stuff easily gleaned if you pay attention. I knew all this before I ever invoiced the company. But also they've hired me to write three art books, so I might know a little.
Unfortunately, most of Wizards articles on like, card design (as in, the physical look of a card) have been wiped in their many website migrations. That sucks!
I'll link some good articles on Magic art at the end. Check out @VorthosMike and @DonnyCaltrider for good art stuff.
The following is a collection of some basic facts you should know to understand Magic art and card frame design better.
Oh, well, since some of you asked so nicely, here are some diagrams I made of how the interior of New Phyrexia has changed over time.
We start with Argentum, Karn's original creation. It was pretty simple, a hollow sphere with a mana core keeping the balance. #vorthos#mtgone
Then Memnarch, the Mirari given golem form, gets infected and reshapes the plane into five biomes, transporting living beings to populate it. He resides in the interior, but the mana core has destabilized, ejecting the 'suns' of each color of mana.
Inside the core, the mycosynth begins to grow toward the mana core. The side effect of the mycosynth is that it starts changed metal to flesh and vice versa.
Dragon Engines were the term for both the highly sophisticated artificial lifeforms that were ‘native’ to Phyrexia, and the copies made by Mishra’s army. All of these are examples of dragon engines.
Back in The Thran, we learn the original planeswalker creator of Phyrexia loved taking the form of a metallic dragon, and populated the first sphere with ‘serpents’ in his image.
These were, of course, corrupted by Yawgmoth when he claimed the artificial plane for himself.
We don’t know anything else about the original creator of Phyrexia, just that his technology allowed Yawgmoth to fully realize his vision. He was not Chromium.
Diegetically (meaning in-universe), it's also know as The Antiquies War, or the Antiquity War, which is the name of the book written on it by Kayla bin-Kroog.
(I'll have a whole article to prep you coming next month, don't worry)
Let's start with the things that cause the darn war, the Mightstone and Weakstone! These are two halves a single powerstone containing the soul of the ancient Thran artificer, Glacian. They were used to seal the Gateway to Phyrexia. Each brother covets the others'.
The Mightstone makes things stronger, the Weakstone makes things weaker. Hence, the mechanics. What starts as sibling rivalry results in the death of their mentor and eventually, each brother finds themselves in a position of power between feuding nations.
