On July 6, 2020, the former CEO of Reddit Ellen Pao spilled the beans--right here on Twitter--that she had once attended a Kleiner Perkins Christmas Party in 2011 where Ghislaine Maxwell was in attendance & remarked that "we knew about her supplying underage girls for sex."
This sent the internet into a frenzy and triggered internet anons to start making the connection between Reddit and Maxwell--a theory that had already been simmering in the dark corners of reddit and 4chan.

5. More evidence that Ghislaine Maxwell was indeed u/MaxwellHill on Reddit:
🔻The user promoted legalizing child pôrn on r/Worldnews.
🔻The user was notably absent from posting during the exact dates of the Madeleine McCann disappearance.
🔻The user complained about over-zealous child protection laws

6. But the discoveries didn't stop there.
Researchers linked her to another identity on reddit: u/anutensil, which also was very active on the same reddit pages as MaxwellHill.
They also discovered that she was using both her reddit identities to lurk on the then popular free-speech reddit alternative Voat.

7. Now we have the "HOW" & "WHAT" she was doing, and must answer the "WHY?"
Answer: Control.
The entire honey-trap operation they ran in the real world was all about controlling people, and then through controlling people they could control institutions.
But as we know all too well today in this era of extreme internet censorship: it's not enough to merely control institutions--strict control over information and narratives is essential, too.
IOW, Maxwell's operation wasn't just about capturing the agency of powerful individuals, it was also about capturing the minds & hearts of the masses.
If you can control the information people are exposed to, you can control what they think about.
If you can control the slant of the information people are exposed to, you can control how they think about those things.
Answer: Control.

These bans came in late June 2020, literally just days before Ghislaine Maxwell was arrested on July 2, 2020.
Other influential accounts across other platforms were also banned in quick succession: Trump, Stefan Molyneux and Jared Taylor of American Renaissance to name just a few.
One interesting thing to note here is that Vanity Fair is owned by Conde Nast--the same company that owns Reddit.
