Oh my freaking goodness! Original box and all for this Tandy 1000 SX that arrived today. Let's explore!
Okay, opened it up, and I have some homework to do! Let's look at all 4 of the expansion cards, one by one.
The first one is easy. Serial card. Tandy branded as one would expect 🤣
The second one is an RLL controller card with an option ROM. I am not sure I will be sourcing a drive to get this going 😅. minuszerodegrees.net/manuals/Wester…
The next one is a Bernoulli PC2/50 controller card for the Bernoulli drive. Neat!
Woah! The final card? It's a 286 accelerator card! Now THAT is cool!!
There is a SmartWatch installed, probably completely dead (@wrljet to answer your question, this is where the battery is, contained in here)
Making a 720k boot disk!
Booted up! Now time to find an XTIDE and really have some fun!
Okay, quick detour: I just had to fire up the Bernoulli drive. Sound on for this!
Found it! That took way too long 😅
Haha, I think the Bernoulli is detected as a "foreign hard disk"
Haha, uh oh 😅. Might be time to pop out the Bernoulli
Took the Bernoulli card out and now the XTIDE HDD is detected. I bet I have a conflict.
Loading a new XTIDE BIOS before we get too far along!
Alright, looking good! Let's pop the Bernoulli back in
Angriness 😅. Okay, off to learn how this works.

It's another beautiful day here... and time to clean and test some more LTE 5000 systems! And since I am taking an extended weekend, we have time to do this. Let's get to work. 🧵
So, first, the tarp earned its pay. It rained a bit overnight. Most systems did stay dry. No concerns here! I thought the tarp had a small hole in it. Indeed it did 😂
Before we proceed, I do have a confession: late last night, I did pull one more system off the stack, clean it up, and try to test it. Sadly, it's dead. Oh well, we will deal with that later.
Ooookay, one more laptop today. A few folks have asked "how about the red laptop? Does it have a chance?" Well, I think I'd say "kindof, with some help!" Let's explore in a 🧵 here!
Initially, I started out with some Goof Off to clean off the paint. That damaged the screen cover's plastic. But I soon learned that would not matter. Because, well, here's the screen. Also, look at that nice red HDD cover. Paint on the keyboard too. Oh boy!
After some effort, I got the battery out. It was sealed by the paint. Now we can take a look inside. Lovely!
Shall we continue our LTE 5000 series cleaning and testing? I'm glad I covered them with a tarp, we had some condensation overnight!! This one is a LTE 5380 without any drives. It cleaned up nice and it does power up!!
Okay, second one is a little rough. Cleaned up. Powered on once but won't power on again.
Next one! Cleaned up. Powered right up. A nice LTE 5380
I've cleaned and tested three of my $10 laptops so far. And they are flawless!!
The fourth one I cleaned is a little rough (bad screen bezel, failing HDD, battery was taped in, and mouse pointer is bad) but hey it at least powers on!
It's always fun to install "older" OSes on systems not designed for them. Given that, how about we install Windows '98 SE on this Dell Latitude D600 with a Pentium M processor? Let's have a look at it in a 🧵 here!
So, first and foremost, this site is AWESOME! There is a bundle of drivers that you can download, and inside the bundle is a readme file with some very clear instructions on what to do! retrosystemsrevival.blogspot.com/2018/05/dell-l…
I kicked off the install, and not far into the process, we ran into an issue since this system has more than 512MB of memory. I had to add a line to system dot ini under the [386enh] section as you see here (MaxPhysPage=20000). After that change, install proceeded!
