3 years ago, @GretchenCarlson asked me to look into a camp in Branson, Missouri called @Kanakuk where abuse happened, but few knew about it due to their draconian use of NDAs. I didn’t want to look into this, but – knowing children might be at risk – I needed to. /1
What I found was even more disturbing than Gretchen knew. I discovered many predators at the camp – from the 1950s until just recently – with camp leadership covering it up and hoping no one noticed. /2
One reason ‘no one noticed’ is because @Kanakuk’s celebrity influences kept hammering away at ‘what a great place’ it was and ‘how much good is being done there.’
Clark Hunt, the part owner, chairman and CEO of the Kansas City @Chiefs, is one of those @Kanakuk endorsers. /3
He has promoted @Kanakuk throughout the years, before and after I published my investigation in @USATODAY which detailed how the camp leadership kept vital info from parents about camper abuse. /4
The camp promotes 'purity culture' - a petri dish of abuse - in order to assure well-meaning parents their kids would be 'protected from the world.' But the parents didn't realize their kids needed protection from the Christian leaders. /5
Campers could not communicate with parents what was happening at the camp - except through hand-writtten letters. Little did parents know Kanakuk the counselors were instructed to monitor to prevent criticism (even suicide threats) from reaching home. /6
They were right to worry about suicide. This young Dallas man died via suicide after his horrific abuse at @Kanakuk. I've been told of several other deaths as well. (Mostly victims, but - in one case – a predator.) /7
Anyway, Clark Hunt has promoted the camp – before and after it was revealed @Kanakuk's been a hotbed of rape. He spoke at a fundraiser breakfast in 2021 for an affiliated ministry after the articles showing Kanakuk leadership's complicity in the abuse that happened there. /8
The Clarks posted a photo of @Kanakuk CEO Joe White with their daughter. White is the main person at the helm as hundreds of children were assaulted at the camp. /9
In June of last year, Clark's wife Tavia posted this photo promoting not just @Kanakuk but demonstrating that their daughter was attending last summer. (Note the "faith, hope" stickers on her trunk.) /10
In this post, the Hunts talk about how their daughter received an honor at @Kanakuk. /11
ICYMI, here is one of the many articles I wrote about @Kanakuk demonstrating how they allowed a super predator (and others) to abuse an estimated hundreds of kids, then hid that from the public. /12 usatoday.com/story/news/inv…
But the investigation took me 3 years, which means I wrote a LOT about this over that time. Check out all of my @Kanakuk articles in @springfieldNL and @thedispatch by going to my website and looking under 'journalism.' /13NancyFrench.com
Nobody resigned as a result of the failure to stop a decade of abuse. There was no disciplinary action against any of the super predator’s supervisors, and Joe White is still the head of the camp today -- apparently still enjoying his friendship with the Hunt family. /14
For all of you Kansas City fans, including @TaylorSwift, cheer them on!
But please hold Kanakuk’s celebrity endorsers accountable too.
This isn't a game for the hundreds of victims. /END

Many of you have asked about Franklin mayoral candidate Gabrielle Hanson's faith. Yes, she hangs out with Nazis and refuses to denounce them, but is she a Christian Nationalist too? This is a screen shot from a recent revival at Harlinsdale Farm: /1
Hanson talks about her faith all the time. In this event, note that Hanson's hands are raised to God, as people pray for her. In one hand is a Bible. People prayed that she 'would be a woman of God would not back down to the demonic.' Here's an advertisement for the event. /2
The full video - posted on FB - is worth a watch. At the 2:08 mark, Hanson gets up and people pray for her and prophesy over her. Then the lady prophesies that Hanson is up against demonic powers in the school system: /3 facebook.com/watch/live/?re…
I didn't want to post about this, but my neighborhood Westhaven is unsafe and this all needs to be exposed. First, please see this @NC5PhilWilliams segment which calls out GOP neighbor - JEFF FELDMAN -- for his lies, deceptions, and oddities: /1`
In this full video, Phil asks Feldman about a social media post he allegedly posted in a Westhaven FB group threatening to shoot neighborhood teenagers!! (We have 1 of the only Black teens in the neighborhood and this is CHILLING) /2 rumble.com/v3n8op3-jeff-a…
Feldman, you will notice, denies posting it, but Phil says MANY Westhaven residents sent him this. I believe this is the screen shot in question. (I don't belong to these Westhaven FB groups and didn't see it, but Phil quoted this.) /3
QUIZ: Who said this about the moral character of Presidents?
'Character DOES matter. You can’t run a family, let alone a country, without it. How foolish to believe that a person who lacks honesty and moral integrity is qualified to lead a nation and the world!' /1
'Nevertheless, our people continue to say that the President is doing a good job even if they don’t respect him personally.'Those two positions are fundamentally incompatible.' /2
'In the Book of James the question is posed, “Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring” (James 3:11). The answer is no.' /3
A couple of years ago, I decided to treat my parents like my celebrity clients and ghostwrite a book about their lives while I still have the chance to interview them. The process was tough and wonderful -- what a gift to be able to ask your parents anything you want. /1
Tonight, we invited all of their friends and family to come -- from various places, including the mountain where my parents are from -- to celebrate the book. My sister made this huge sign with the book cover on it. /2
I did a quiz about my parents' lives to see how well they knew my parents - stuff like 'How old was Bob when he joined the Marines?' (Answer: 15) or 'What jobs has Betty NOT had? (Answer: She was a teacher and the owner of a day care center but not a professional quilter) /3
My Uber driver just asked me to consider inviting Jesus into my life as my savior. We are on the dangerous Highway 17, so perhaps a good moment to bring it up.
Okay, so this conversation kept going. He then asked me about Donald Trump (!) and I said I was not a fan, BECAUSE OF MY FAITH that the driver was so interested in me having... and then he began to tell me about how bold Trump is. And I agreed that he was, in fact, "bold." /2
And he also asked me if I believed in ghosts and witches. And the whole time staticky pop music was playing on the radio and it was not ideal. /3
Camp CEO Joe White wrote that he was spiritually inspired by a 1974 Gothard conference in Tulsa. I guess it's not surprising that Kanakuk and Gothard share similar abusive tactics. /1
Both Gothard & White used marriage as a prophylactic against criticism. Just as Gothard suggested his abusive brother could be shielded from suspicion if he married, @Kanakuk also believed super-predator Pete Newman’s pedophilic behavior could be stemmed by marriage. /2
After @Kanakuk received complaints about Newman’s nudity with children, the camp established temporary boundaries that would be reconsidered after he got married.
(As if a pedophile can be 'cured' by even more rules + matrimony.) /3
