#1. This was not cool. One spectator died and another spectator was wounded. We settle our differences at the ballot box not with the cartridge box.
#2. This was about a 167 yard shot. This isn't hard to do. The waving flags indicate a beufort scale of 2 or roughly between 4-7 miles per hour. A 5.56 bullet drifts approximately 1.1″ at 100 yards, 5″ at 200 yards, so we're talking drift of 2.2" at that range.
#3 I've only seen blurry pictures of the shooter's weapon, but it looks like an AR-15 type rife although I can't tell if there are optics on the weapon. A trained shooter can make a 167 yard center-mass shot with no optics into a man-sized target. Optics make it easier.
#4 I don't think its likely that this particular shooter was well-trained, but the counter-snipers were and they were able to end the threat, even though they had to shoot through trees. Rough counter-sniper sketch below.
#5 The quick reaction of the Secret Service Protective Detail without regard to their personal safety is a credit to their professionalism.

#6. This is not a bullet. This is a vapor trail. A vapor trail is condensation formed in humid air as a supersonic bullet shoves the air out of the way. The bullet will be a few inches in front of this.
#7. There are some people who are claiming that the event was staged or that the weapon was a BB gun or paintball gun. This would be very difficult to stage. A grazing shot at 167 yards with light wind would be hard to do and does not take the spectator casualties into account.
#8. In the coming days there is going to be a lot of misinformaion spread about this event. If you don't know what you are talking about you something makes you feel emotional, don't share it. It is likely misinformation.
