Madhya Pradesh Madrasa Scam: Fraudulent Enrollment of Hindu Children Exposed, Government Funds Misused.
A big cam has been uncovered involving madrasas (Islamic schools) in the districts of Bhind and Morena.
Despite having a relatively low Muslim population, these districts have a disproportionately high number of madrasas, with 137 institutions enrolled in government records.
Investigations have revealed that many of these madrasas have more Hindu children enrolled than Muslim children, with 3,880 Hindu children listed in attendance records. However, most of these children do not attend the madrasas and are instead enrolled in other schools.
The scam involves inflating enrollment figures to obtain government funds, with each madrasa receiving 50,000 rupees for every 100 children enrolled. The government benefits also include wheat, cooking costs, and salaries for teachers.
The districts of Bhind and Morena have 67 and 70 madrasas, respectively, whereas Burhanpur, the district with the highest Muslim population, has only 23 madrasas. This disparity raises suspicions of a fraudulent scheme to exploit government funds.
Some specific examples of madrasas involved in the scam include:
Madarsa Husseini in Bhind, with 77 students, 44% of whom are Hindu.
Madarsa Deen-e-Akbar and Husseini Program in Bhind, with 83 students, 53% of whom are Hindu.
Madarsa Masjid Navi in Bhind, with 87 students, 44% of whom are Hindu.
The investigation has led to the revocation of recognition for 56 out of 80 madrasas in Sheopur district, and the School Education Minister has ordered an expedited physical verification of madrasas across all districts.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also initiated an investigation, and the education department has closed 56 madrasas in Sheopur district. The government has given ₹125 crore as grant money to these madrasas over the past 7 years.
Individuals involved in the scam include Munshi Khan, who was running four madrasas, and Shafia Begum, who was running six madrasas.
The names of Hindu children, including software engineer Manav Goyal, doctor Priya Mittal, and doctor Jyotsna Goyal, were found in madrasa records, allegedly used to fraudulently claim government grants and supplies.
