COVID-19: SARS-CoV-2 is in the “High” category nationally and in some regions (Midwest & Northeast) with high concentrations but a downward trend over the last 3 weeks.
2/ COVID-19 Variants: In sequencing data from a subset of WWSCAN sites, we see that KP variants are making up > 50% of variants with KP.1 (lime green) at 7.0%, KP.2 (slate blue) at 30.2% & KP.3 (light blue) at 39.8%. Sequencing data has a longer lag of 1-2 weeks after collection.
3/ Influenza: Flu A and B remain in the “Low” category nationally and in all regions.
4/ H5 influenza marker: H5 has been detected in 9 states - AR, CA, CO, IA, ID, MI, MN, SD & TX. As of 9/27/24, CA, CO, IA, ID, MI, MN, SD & TX have also had infected cattle herds reported.
5/ EV-D68: EV-D68 is still in the “Medium” category nationwide and in all regions. In the last 10 days, approximately 73% of the samples tested detected EV-D68.
6/ Norovirus: Norovirus is in the “Medium” category nationally and in some regions with a downward trend over the last 3 weeks. However, the West is in the “High” category with medium concentrations and an upward trend.

THREAD #Influenza A and #RSV levels in wastewater we analyze from across the US have jumped, and at the same time rather than by their typical staggered seasons. #SARS-CoV-2 isn’t rising but hasn’t fallen as far as in the past. These data are from communities in 20 states:
For flu & RSV, wastewater offers a rapid population view of infections. So it includes healthy adults with RSV who don’t feel sick but can spread virus to those more vulnerable. Clinical data faces lag time, usually includes those most severely ill. cnn.com/2022/10/27/hea…
WastewaterSCAN sites sample three times a week, ship them overnight at no cost, and get results within 48 hours of samples getting to our lab.
