Respiratory Weekly Update: SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A & RSV in “High” category nationwide. SARS-CoV-2 & RSV levels are declining. Other respiratory viruses (Influenza B, HMPV, & EV-D68) remain in “Low” wastewater category nationwide & not in seasonal onset. 2/ COVID-19: COVID-19: Nationwide, SARS-CoV-2 is in the “High” category with high concentrations and a no significant trend up or down over the last 3 weeks.

COVID-19: Nationwide, SARS-CoV-2 is in the “Low” category with low concentrations and no significant trend up or down over the last 3 weeks. 2/ COVID-19 Variants: In sequencing data from a subset of WWSCAN sites, we see that the KP family makes up ~66% of variants. KP.1 (lime green) is at 3.8%, KP.2 (slate blue) is at 8.9% and KP.3 (light blue) is at 53.3%. Sequencing data has a lag of 1-2 weeks after collection.

COVID-19: SARS-CoV-2 is in the “High” category nationally and in some regions (Midwest & Northeast) with high concentrations but a downward trend over the last 3 weeks. 2/ COVID-19 Variants: In sequencing data from a subset of WWSCAN sites, we see that KP variants are making up > 50% of variants with KP.1 (lime green) at 7.0%, KP.2 (slate blue) at 30.2% & KP.3 (light blue) at 39.8%. Sequencing data has a longer lag of 1-2 weeks after collection.

COVID-19: Nationally, SARS-CoV-2 is in the “High” category with an upward trend over the last 3 weeks. The West is the only region that remains in the “Medium” category. 2/ Influenza: Nationally and in every region, Flu A and B continue to be in the “Low” category and not in onset.

THREAD #Influenza A and #RSV levels in wastewater we analyze from across the US have jumped, and at the same time rather than by their typical staggered seasons. #SARS-CoV-2 isn’t rising but hasn’t fallen as far as in the past. These data are from communities in 20 states:
For flu & RSV, wastewater offers a rapid population view of infections. So it includes healthy adults with RSV who don’t feel sick but can spread virus to those more vulnerable. Clinical data faces lag time, usually includes those most severely ill. cnn.com/2022/10/27/hea…
