The current global situation, is a complete mess, with a multitude of conflicting and contradictory narratives, so messed up, that even the person with the best overall perspective, can't pick out any consistent thread to make sense of it.
It's overwhelming.
1/🧵
I've been thinking about this thread for some time, and still can't find a way of cutting through all the obfuscation, and smokescreen, so this is just a placeholder for when I manage.
In the meantime, I will outline the whole problem.
2/
As I've said, we've entered into a whole new phase, and yet no one has really noticed it, or defined it. The global situation today, is profoundly different from what it was 15 years ago, and I will briefly explain why.
3/
The primary reason, was that 15 years ago, it was still just about credible, that our leaders were going to take the appropriate action on the climate and ecological crisis, which they pledged to take at the 1992 Rio Earth Summit.
It is no longer credible, that our governments and leaders, intend to take that appropriate action, and it is questionable, whether they ever intended what they pledged. That they were just playing for time, with false pledges. It's an old trick.
5/
As we move forward in time, the action necessary to prevent future catastrophe, has to be ever more sudden, radical and drastic. It would mean suspending the whole world economic and financial system as it is now, and yet our leaders are more unwilling to change, than ever.
6/
In addition, much climate and biodiversity destruction is now locked in, meaning no matter how radical action is, we can never repair it all and difficult times lie ahead. Although we can prevent it getting much worse, just. But time is running out.
Some will say, but I'm overlooking many things, and I'm solely focused on the climate and ecological crisis. Yes, there is much more, and I will come to that. However, people must realize, that if we don't address the climate and ecological emergency, it is game over for us.
8/
Personally, I have been deeply shocked, how western governments have been trying to gaslight us into ignoring the mass civilian deaths, and 20,000 or more children missing in Gaza, a horror beyond horrors.
I commend those with large followings such as @GretaThunberg and @AURORAmusic for counteracting the lies and gaslighting by our leaders, which is truly Orwellian, and shocking. I thank all others trying to counteract this gaslighting.
Then there is the shocking way, that all the costs and burden is being put onto ordinary people, and the vulnerable, with austerity. Where billionaires rapidly head towards being the first trillionaires by 2027-30.
All this is highly interlinked and connected, with a tiny minority of incredibly rich and powerful people, being behind all of this, corrupting of our societies, and polluting discourse with their disinformation. Gigantic gaslighting. They are malignant liars.
12/
It's very difficult to know if democracy, and freedom were always just an illusion, and all the time these narcissistic and dishonest people, with no moral compasses, were always taking us towards this abyss, and were simply lying about what they really believed in.
13/
I say, that it is still possible to break out of this, if people will wake up to the situation we are in, and throw off the control of these enemies of humanity, driving us towards the collapse of our civilization.
What the oligarchy, the top 1% must realize, is that they can only put off radical change, for a bit longer. Change is coming whether they like it or not, and they can't stop it. Their money and their power, will not save them from this reckoning.
What this is about, is us managing and navigating this radical change, without billions of people starving to death, which is what'll happen, if we don't prise the control of our societies, from this super rich death cult, which currently has a stranglehold on our societies.

When I talk about a power and wealth clique, I am not talking about something most of the people are in it, are even aware of. Most people in cliques, are rarely aware they are in a clique. People, caught up in groupthink, are not aware that it's groupthink.
1/🧵
It's natural and obvious, that someone with a lot of wealth, would want the status quo to continue that gives them that wealth.
It is a problem, simply because this demographic, also has all the decision-making power, the ability to block all major decisions about our system.
2/
This is why I'm not describing a conspiracy theory. Just a demographic, with a lot of vested interest, and common interest, in preserving business as usual, and the status quo, and this leading to them being in denial, about what is driving the climate and ecological crisis.
3/
I want to address the core issue as regards the climate and ecological crisis, which if not addressed, renders everything else, utterly meaningless.
It is now very clear, that a powerful clique, with all the power and the money, is deliberately blocking action.
1/🧵
You often hear environmentalists, talking about persuading the public, why action is necessary, as if that were the obstacle - it is not. Or futilely pleading with governments and politicians, to take appropriate action.
2/
All of that is futile, because within the present system, unless those who hold all the power, agree to this, and don't obstruct action, or simply refuse to implement it, then we are going nowhere, and the climate and ecological crisis, will soon reach a critical level.
3/
"The UK government’s move to award £22bn in subsidies to carbon capture projects followed a sharp increase in lobbying by the fossil fuel industry, it can be revealed."
What any informed person already knew, and what I said the other day.
Talk about sleazy. Throwing money at the corrupt and ecocidal gas and oil industry, so they can continue extracting and selling planet killing fossil fuels, with a technology bound to fail, but good for their business.
3/
@dwallacewells I find myself, having 2 apparent reactions to this, apparently at opposite ends of the spectrum.
Firstly, I believe it's never too late, to take decisive action to stop things getting worse.
Secondly, I believe we could be in serious danger, much earlier than is recognized.
1/
@dwallacewells There could be major impacts on our system, well before we get to 2C, let alone, 3C (notice "could" i.e. it relies on probability, and what happens is not fixed or determined).
Our system, is far more vulnerable, than is generally recognized.
2/
@dwallacewells Conventionally, future impact scenarios, imagine it getting gradually hotter, to a level where an organized economy, civilization, gets more difficult, to impossible. However, I believe this is mistaken, as it would take a lot of luck to get there in one piece.
3/
Here, @KevinClimate highlights, one of the HUGE problems of our time. Unprincipled, so-called climate "experts", who will say, whatever the powerful want to hear, to advance their careers.
1/🧵
@KevinClimate is living proof, that being scrupulously honest, and sticking to the best possible science, doesn't get you very far. Despite being one of the world's leading experts in his field, he is rarely invited on TV to speak, and is avoided by charlatan politicians.
2/
The pro-economic growth, neoliberal politicians, can cherry-pick, which self-styled "expert", they listen to, using the cherry-picking logical fallacy, to confirm, whatever they find convenient for their agenda.
It looks like @Keir_Starmer is a climate crisis denier.
This is the term I use for people i.e. politicians, who claim to accept the science, but who refuse to treat it as the crisis and emergency, it is. All this stuff about "finger-wagging Net Zero extremists" is dangerous. 1/
Net Zero policy, as framed by politicians, is completely inadequate, and @KevinClimate calls it Not Zero.
So if @Keir_Starmer thinks Net Zero policy, is extremist, then he is seriously in denial about what the science actually says is necessary.
2/
This is very worrying, because in 2023, it was reported, that after a presentation by @Ed_Miliband, that @Keir_Starmer exploded in anger, and in an outburst, said “I hate tree huggers”. This would indicate that Starmer is seriously in denial.
