Edinburgh's full council meeting is underway at the City Chambers. Ex council leader Cammy Day has just joined the meeting remotely with his camera off, his vote could be decisive in Labour winning the administration vote
Deputy council leader Mandy Watt says she first found out about allegations against Cllr Day December 6 at a City Chanbers Xmas party. "Cllr Booth put his smartphone to me and said have you seen this headline?... as soon as I got home I had to subscribe to the Times"
Tory cllr Max Mitchell proposes continuation of appointment until after Christmas and the Colinton-Fairmilehead by election.
Excoriating speech from @rsmcksg who says Cllr Day had 'none of the skills you would want from an elected representative'. He withdraws his amendment proposing himself as council leader and says he'll back SNP-Green
. Labour's @KatrinaFaccenda blasts her group who she says have failed in administration over last 2 years and 'turned a blind eye to dishonesty' alongside other parties which have propped up admin

'This is not politics, you are putting your own interests above the people'
She says she'll support Tories in continuing this item
.@AlysGreens says she finds it 'incredibly offensive' that Cllr Day's name on teams is still displayed as 'council leader'
Tory leader Iain Whyte: 'if we do have to come to a decision that is a difficult decision for us to make

'I am very conscious the allegations against Cllr Day are still being investigated'

He says group will support minority Labour administration to continue
Fellow Cons cllr @PhilipDoggart: 'I look around the room and I see members across all parties who the capabilities to run committees in a collaborative way... who I have worked with to achieve good outcomes.

'If I support the status quo I am defending the indefensible...
@PhilipDoggart Similarly he says if he supports SNP-Greens this is also 'defending the indefensible'

'In Edinburgh today I feel we are moving closer to my political fear becoming a reality' ... take from that what you will!
@PhilipDoggart Labour's @MG4CityCentre will also back continuation. Says she's found herself uncomfortable with some of the decisions she's had to support over last few years. 'You do not make the best decision when you are in a situation of turmoil and for some of us trauma'
.@lezleymarion: call out her group's pick for council leader Jane Meagher (who's dialled in from Tanzania) for not speaking. She raises doubts her group has the 'capability and energy' to handle the workload of staying in administration

Meagher turns her camera off in response
@lezleymarion LibDem leader @kevin_lang says council should make a decision today. 'Next month we have to make a big decision on the visitor levy, and then weeks after that a decision about a budget

'Whatever you think should happen I think that should happen today'
@lezleymarion @kevin_lang Cllr Meagher has turned her camera back on and raised a virtual hand to speak. Lord Provost said a few mins ago no more speaker request but will be up to him whether to let her speak
@lezleymarion @kevin_lang He allows her to talk.

Meagher says 'we need our focus to remain on getting back services right'

'Our aim is to eradicate poverty and reach net zero by 2030

'I want to built consensus for that'
That concludes the debate

Decision time - first on whether to vote on leadership today or in the new year
Summing up, Cllr Watt says 'everyone has been through a very difficult time... part of me would like to have more time to think about this' but adds most appropriate to decide today

'I think this group has had many achievements over the last few weeks, months and years'
SNP request vote by roll call. Cllr Macinnes argues Cllr Day should have his camera turned on but LP replies there is no rule requiring this
Vote now on whether to continue.

For: 11 (Tories, 2 Labour)
Against: 50 (Green, SNP, LD, rest Lab)

Moving onto leadership vote by roll call
VOTE

Labour: 32

SNP Green: 28

Labour minority administration HOLDS with Cllr Jane Meagher as council leader

NEW: I spoke to STL owners, holiday letting agents & others affected by new licensing laws coming next month

One said regulations amounted to a 'pogrom' of the sector

This typically refers to massacre of Jews, will be found deeply offensive & I imagine doesn't help the campaign
However most spoke of businesses, livelihoods being 'destroyed' and said planning checks needed to get entire properties licensed will damage Scottish tourism

"My properties, most of them have a shared doorway so the chances of them getting planning, licensing is pretty low"
This holiday homes owner and operator converted old buildings including a warehouse and church in Leith into 'unique' tourist accommodation

"All the people that we employ are going to be so badly affected by the laws," he said

"We've invested heavily, we're a family business"

Good evening from Corstorphine Community Centre where a hustings is about to kick off ahead of next month’s Corstorphine/Murrayfied by-election #LDReporter Image
All but three candidates are here - were missing Fiona Bennett (Lib Dem), Donald Rutherford (SNP), Richard Fettes (Scottish Family)
First up is opening remakes - Hugh Findlay from Conservatives is first.

He says the reason for the by election is because councillors turned their back on support for Roseburn traders.
