No one on the America left would ever actually move to China because the one thing they care about most of all is being able to whine about how they’re victims of oppression and that’s the main thing that you aren’t allowed to do in China
They’re too mouthy and they know it. They’d end up in a fucking police station demanding someone call the US embassy within a year.
Only the west is prosperous enough to confidently allow our stupidest citizens to whine endlessly about bullshit
The right likes to cry about bullshit too but they only pull the “I wish I lived in Hungary” crap when there is a democratic president and their feelings are hurt.

The lefties doing this china shit do it just bc that’s who they are. They wanted to move to Yemen a year ago lol
The democratic equivalent of conservatives who say they wish they live in Hungary is the annoying liberals who threaten to move to Canada whenever a republican wins.

The lefties actually just are knee jerk America haters who get in bed with the villain of the week.
Normie democrats need to defeat the left once and for all lol. They’re our problem. We have let this get out of hand and we have to take our rabid dog behind the barn and put it down. Or else we have to stop feeling superior to republicans for failing to stop the far right.
The Democratic Party did a pretty good job for like 75 years of marginalizing the far left (with some occasional temporary lapses). It’s not like we don’t know how to do this. We did it until like a decade ago. They’re communists and we must not be associated with them.
Whenever I express this opinion the far left is like “well then you can’t blame us when we don’t vote for your candidate!” Great. Deal. You aren’t worth the trouble. Go start your own party. Call it the New Socialism Party or The USA Sucks And Its Adversaries Have A Point Party.
And while you’re at it you should take the Jews with ya!

Haha just kidding

A bit of cheeky antisemitism to lighten the mood. I know you don’t like Jews. I’m Jewish actually. We have popular opinions mostly. The Christians have grown quite fond of us actually. We get to stay.

One of the things that I think is good about the Abundance Agenda (even though I hate that name) is actually something that @mattyglesias said to me when I interviewed him about his book years ago and was nit picking “One Billion Americans.”
He said something like “I think Americans need something to be excited about.” A positive vision of the future that isn’t just avoiding catastrophe and gloom. And honestly that is one of the main things politically that this whole thing is getting at
It’s been since, like, the summer of 2008 that American politics has even come close to doing that. And I think that a Democratic Party that takes on the mantle of “we can do this, America rocks, and the future will be great if we just do some small things” is one that wins

This is legitimately how I felt when I read the book. My mom was dating John Belushi when he died and she is the only person on earth to have seen the video he made the night he died. Woodward was really bad to her bc she wouldn’t turn over the tape
My mom had just married my dad & Woodward wouldn’t stop harassing her and my dad happened to share a lawyer with the head of CBS where Woodward was a contributor and he got him to back off.
As retaliation in that book he calls my dad a drug addict (true) and my mom a “hard faced woman” (false)

When California had the drought a decade ago I asked during a Mother Jones editorial meeting where the water had gone and everyone laughed at me and said “everyone knows where it went” and I said “I don’t know where the water went but I know that it didn’t disappear so it went somewhere” and they said “I don’t have time for this” and ran away and it became a running gag internally because I was like “they can’t answer this basic question” and was so obstinate about it that when I ended up having to edit any stories about the drought I would constantly add edit notes like “must answer: where did the water go” and they would have to wait and find another editor to avoid me because they were like “this editor is a moron” and then after five years or whatever I got this text from one of them and they were like “I was talking to a scientist recently and one thing led to another and I mentioned that there this prick at the company obsessed with where the water went and they said ‘actually we just found the water’ and they sent me the study and there is an answer to your question.’”
Which led to the longest mother jones edit note in history Image

The reporters had a little hissy fit about this and the beat editor who is lovely and I was friends with was deputized to politely inquire about what my “the draught is over” story was motherjones.com/environment/20…

Obama didn’t do anything to raise racial tensions. It was 100% the fault of Scared Whites who went insane because he was Black.
Obama spent his whole fucking presidency being like “let’s not talk about race” and all these dirty little white cowards (like Donald Trump) were like “no we need to talk about race all the time because you’re not even American”
Look, I have a lot of conservative friends and I genuinely believe in not picking fights or letting politics get in the way but the truth is this is the only issue I have not moved right on as an adult. The racial backlash to Obama was disgusting and you’re all going to hell lol

One thing I’m learning from reading this report is that apparently it doesn’t take much money to be a sugar daddy? Lol. Like I sort of assumed these relationships involved quite a lot of money but all the Venmos here are for $400 and stuff.
I am now going down a Reddit hole reading about the sugar daddy culture and, Lordy, it’s dark Image
The experienced sugar babies do not like that these newbie sugar babies are undercutting the sugar baby wages

As opposed to Nathan J Robinson, a man known for humility, accuracy, prescience, and specificity Image
Matt’s obviously been wrong about lots of stuff and he has some opinions I don’t agree with but he’s a smart interesting thinker whose “wrong” columns still make me think about stuff in new and interesting ways. Nathan J Robinson is just a predictable leftist content machine.
At Mother Jones we had partnerships with lefty writers that allowed us to republish their columns whenever we needed content and the internal joke was that no matter what the newshook of the piece was it would always have some random section complaining about the war in Iraq…
