A Mudar Zahran video is making the rounds. I reject it. This is why.

Mudar Zahran, a Jordanian-Palestinian activist living in the UK and self-proclaimed leader of the "Jordanian Opposition Coalition," and
1)
Khaled Abu Toameh, a respected Israeli-Arab journalist formerly with The Jerusalem Post, became embroiled in a significant dispute starting around 2013. The tension escalated when Zahran began a campaign of personal attacks against Abu Toameh,
2)
accusing him of being a mouthpiece for Jordan’s King Abdullah II and undermining Zahran’s credibility. Zahran’s allegations included claims that Abu Toameh received bribes (like an expensive car from a Jordanian intelligence official) and
3)
was secretly anti-Israel in his Arabic writings—charges Abu Toameh denied and which lacked substantiation.

This defamation played out publicly through articles, blog posts, and social media.
4)
Zahran’s attacks were partly fueled by Abu Toameh’s rejection of Zahran’s narrative. Abu Toameh, along with other Israeli journalists like Caroline Glick, had dismissed Zahran as a fraud with no real following in Jordan,
5)
arguing that his "opposition coalition" was a mirage built on websites rather than grassroots support. This critique hit Zahran hard, as he was trying to position himself as a viable alternative to Jordan’s monarchy and
6)
gain Israeli right-wing support for his "Jordan is Palestine" idea. Abu Toameh’s stature as a credible journalist lent weight to these dismissals, making him a target for Zahran’s ire.
7)
The feud reached a legal climax in 2017 when Abu Toameh sued Zahran and Ted Belman, editor of the IsraPundit blog, for defamation. Belman had amplified Zahran’s claims, accusing Abu Toameh of being a paid agent of Jordan’s king and speaking with a "forked tongue"
8)
(pro-Israel in English, anti-Israel in Arabic). In October 2020, an Israeli court ruled in Abu Toameh’s favor, finding no evidence for the accusations. Belman was ordered to retract his statements and apologize, with potential fines for future violations,
9)
while Zahran’s campaign was exposed as baseless. The court victory marked a significant blow to Zahran’s reputation, though he wasn’t directly penalized as he resided in the UK, beyond the court’s reach.

This clash and impugning of Abu Toameh's reputation erupted in phases:
10)
2013-2017: Zahran’s smear campaign intensified, with posts & articles targeting Abu Toameh’s integrity.

In 2014, a Jordanian court convicted him in absentia on multiple charges tied to his writings & activism against the monarchy, sentencing him to up to 15 years in prison.
11)
The charges stemmed from his outspoken criticism of King Abdullah II, including calling the regime an "apartheid state" and predicting its imminent collapse, which Jordan viewed as incitement and a threat to national stability.
12)
After fleeing to the UK in 2010 and gaining asylum, he’s remained a vocal exile, but that warrant ensures he can’t return without facing arrest.
13)
2017: Abu Toameh’s lawsuit highlighted the depth of their rift, drawing in other figures like Glick, who publicly disavowed Zahran after initially considering his ideas.
14)
Context of the feud: A 2017 "Jordan is Palestine" conference organized by Israeli right-wingers, where Zahran was a speaker, became a lightning rod.
15)
Abu Toameh’s allies accused Zahran of exploiting Israel for personal gain, while Zahran claimed Abu Toameh was sabotaging his movement at Jordan’s behest.
16)
The scandal was massive in its fallout: it fractured Zahran’s credibility among his Israeli supporters, earned him a ban from entering Israel in 2019 for "security reasons," and solidified Abu Toameh’s standing as a journalist.
17)
Zahran’s obsession with Abu Toameh—seen in his repeated, unproven accusations—suggested a personal vendetta, perhaps because Abu Toameh’s skepticism threatened Zahran’s grandiose ambitions.
18)
In 2014, a Jordanian court convicted him in absentia on multiple charges tied to his writings and activism against the monarchy, sentencing him to up to 15 years in prison.

20)

21)
Zahran was also banned from entering Israel. His ban from Israel, enacted in 2019 for "security reasons," further complicates his position. It dashed his hopes of building alliances with Israel’s far-right and settler movements,
22)
who he’d courted with his "Jordan is Palestine" proposal. That ban, coupled with the skepticism from figures like Khaled Abu Toameh and Caroline Glick, has left him politically isolated, despite his persistent online presence.

Roger Froikin @rlefraim wrote, "LEARNING FROM THE AMALEQ STORY

People try to make the Torah about history. They argue dates. They use it to affirm or condemn. But Torah is what it means - Instruction.
1)
We learn from the narrative, from the stories, we learn from its approach to history, from the laws it includes.

And we can learn from the story of Amaleq.

The People were told to destroy Amaleq, to wipe them out, even their property, even their livestock.
2)
Now what does all that mean and what does it mean for us today ?

We have to look at the fact that the people were not to benefit in any way from the destruction of Amaleq. No spoils taken, though spoils taking was the general practice in war at the time.

Roger Froikin @rlefraim wrote, "AND WHY REMEMBER?

Some time ago, Both Bat Zion Susskind-Sacks and I posted articles about remembering and not forgetting, both of us taking our start from the Weekend’s Torah Reading of Parsha Zachor.
1)
(Literally “remember”) REMEMBER, BECAUSE OUR MEMORIES DEFINE US.

René Descartes wrote Cogito Ergo Sum- I think, therefore I am.

He might have added a second line about life.

MEMIENS ME QUIS EGO SUM. - Remembering makes me who I am.
2)
It’s really not complicated. Everything we are is the sum total of our experiences, our memories, things we have done, things that have happened to us, our upbringing by our families, the culture we live in, its philosophies, its literature, its religions & its politics.

Roger Froikin @rlefraim wrote, "A NOTE TO AMERICANS ABOUT CANADA

1. Thankfully, Canada is more than Justin de Castro Trudeau with his woke efforts to step on civil rights in Canada.
1)
Next General election may just bring a sensible bunch of leaders back to power who will work well with the USA under Trump.

2. Hurting Canada, for the USA, is like the USA shooting itself in the foot. Foolish.
2)
A close look at trade shows the US and Canada are so intertwined that tariffs against Canada will hurt the US and visa versa. USA-Canada should be a free trade union for the same of both.

Rep Burchett member of DOGE Subcommittee has been vocal about US foreign aid especially through USAID funding terrorist groups

Rep. Tim Burchett, a member of the House DOGE subcommittee, has been vocal about the misuse of U.S. foreign aid,
1)
particularly through USAID, which he claims has been funding terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. During a hearing on February 26, 2025, Burchett questioned witnesses about the flow of U.S. aid to terrorist organizations,
2)
citing examples of USAID funding going to groups with links to Islamic terrorist outfits in various regions, including Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Gaza.

'Listen, everyone
The time will come when all of us say goodbye
Feel that aching in your heart
Leaving you broken inside
