1/ A senior Russian officer was reportedly killed by his own men after boasting that he would be promoted for sending them to die in assaults, and declaring that he would bring funeral notices to their families and "fuck their wives". He allegedly profited from their deaths. ⬇️ Image
2/ In November 2024, the Russian army announced that Colonel Yevgeny Borisovich Ladnov had "died near Luhansk near Kreminna as a result of artillery shelling on 10 November 2024." He was the commander of the 19th Tank Regiment (military unit 12322).
3/ A man who served under Ladnov, Junior Sergeant Andrey Mikhailovich Perevoshchikov, has given an account of what he says happened to the colonel. According to Perevoshchikov, Ladnov was deliberately sending his men to their deaths en masse and told them so in blunt terms:
4/ “He [Ladnov] gathered the stormtroopers and said: What the fuck, you fucking stormtroopers, why are you still alive, you fucking bastards? The more of you there are, the more stars I get on my epaulettes and medals. You are not meat to me, you are just a number...
5/ "I have destroyed two assault regiments and by autumn I will destroy you, and I will deliver the death notices to your wives, and I will fuck your wives."

A similar account was given by a female military doctor in May 2024.
6/ She says that while she was serving with the regiment, she saw that the commanders "simply got rid of unwanted servicemen: they took off their armor and threw grenades at them in the dugout."
7/ The regiment commander shot them himself, his henchmen shot them ... The regiment commander and his henchmen, of course, had already destroyed two regiments before mine, so to speak, the one I was in, the 19th regiment."
8/ She says that the senior officers stole the salaries of the men they were sending to their deaths and worked out in advance who was worth the most money if they died:
9/ "I saw documents in the office of 'Tobol', the chief of staff, about, God forgive me, how much each serviceman costs. That is, the guys were simply sold, like football players were sold, simply for slaughter."
10/ "They didn't take the wounded from the battlefield, they rotted and died there so that they wouldn't have to pay, again, for the wounds. The guys were listed as missing in action, and the [payroll] was distributed between the command, between Ladnov and, again, his lackeys."
11/ She calls Ladnov “the butcher commander”, “the murderer commander”, and says that she was invited to become his 'field wife' – sexual accessory – but refused. As a result of the unit's continued 'lawlessness', the doctor says she had to desert.
12/ A month before his death, Ladnov was reported to have personally ordered the execution of seven of his men who had refused orders.
13/ According to a senior intelligence officer in the regiment, on Ladnov's orders the men were taken by his subordinates "into the neighboring forest belt without armour, without weapons, and gave each of them a burst in the chest, point-blank.”
14/ A few weeks later, Ladnov was killed, allegedly by his men according to Perevoshchikov's account.
15/ Perevoshchikov sustained a leg injury and was transferred to the 482nd separate anti-aircraft missile division, where he worked to counter Ukrainian drones. However, he says, his work was not recognised and his kills were falsely claimed by others.
16/ He says that awards are received by individual soldiers who “suck up” to their superiors:

"When they give [awards] to those who are extinguished, make them tea, buy booze, wash their socks, underwear and pay for it, and do not fight, I can’t [stand it]."
17/ "And once again, I again spoke in favor of awards... Everyone is awarded, all my merits are attributed to others, but not to me."

He complained to his commander but was transferred to an assault squad instead as punishment.
18/ When he refused to go on an assault, "they tied me up and kicked me around, the bastards. ... They kicked my neck, and now, fucking hell, it hurts. They kept me stretched out in the swallow pose for six hours , six hours.
19/ "My arms don’t move, I can’t fucking hold a mug of coffee. ... These scumbags put me face down in the ground, so I could breathe. Bitch, I had to eat dirt ... Those despicable bastards poured my urine into a bottle. I think they poured my fucking urine on me.
20/ "Bitch, I even started stuttering. In short, they didn't break me, they didn't fucking kill me. They fucking changed me. They changed me a lot. Bro. I trust in God's will."
21/ God's will appears to be insufficient, though, as he recorded the video above and instructed a friend to release it if he went missing. He says his commanders are planning to "zero" (murder) him and that his unit's assaults are resulting in massive casualties among the men.
22/ The men are being used to expose Ukrainian positions by running into the gunfire to allow a hovering Russian drone to see where the fire is coming from. Perevoshchikov says, "There is no artillery preparation, no reconnaissance."
23/ "Our bird is hovering and watching us as we go to see and report where the Ukrainian firing positions are. They are watching to see which of our guys are being taken out, and then they fire from there themselves. I think their task is becoming clear to me.
24/ "The more of us they wipe out, the better for them. Everyone understands that the assault is 200 [suicidal], but they send those whose wounds haven’t even healed into the offensive."
25/ "We are occupying the positions with heavy losses. The Ukrainians are hammering away. Kamikaze drones with machine guns are attacking the combat artillery. We can't even see them. We lie down like idiots. Even if we occupy a position, in a couple of days they burn us down.
26/ At the same time, the commanders are lying about their military successes:

"According to the documents, according to the reports to Putin, they took Tors'ke two years ago, suck a dick, it's still Ukrainian."
27/ Perevoshchikov concludes:

"I am not afraid of death, but it is scary to take death in vain. I came to fight for the Motherland. And I thought, here is honor and conscience, and nobility. I did not see this. The greatest evil that I saw was from my so-called friends." /end

1/ Ryazan has become the latest Russian region to introduce bounties for citizens who find recruits to join the Russian army. The initiative has raised concerns that slaves and vulnerable people will be 'sold' to the army for profit, as has already happened in some cases. ⬇️ MINISTRY OF DEFENCE OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION MILITARY REGISTRATION OFFICE OF THE RYAZAN REGION
2/ The 7x7 news outlet reports that the Ryazan regional authorities have approved the introduction of payments to those who attract people to sign a military contract. Recruitment of a local resident will be rewarded with a bounty of 57,500 rubles ($718). Image
3/ A resident of another region is worth 344,800 rubles ($4,000) and a foreigner is worth 80,500 ($1,062). Government workers and those who are already employed as military recruiters are excluded from the bounty programme. Contracts must be signed by the end of 2025.

1/ A key factor in the current water crisis in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions is the collapse of the existing water infrastructure, in which at least 50% of the already limited supply of water is lost through leaks. People are now reduced to collecting water from the streets. ⬇️
2/ As previously reported, the occupied eastern regions of Ukraine are undergoing a catastrophic shortage of water that Russian commentators have called a "water genocide", caused by war, mismanagement and corruption by the Russian-installed authorities.
3/ The water infrastructure installed by Ukraine before the Russian takeover in 2014 has become dilapidated due to neglect and theft from maintenance budgets. Reservoirs are empty and groundwater is undrinkable due to iron contamination from the region's abandoned mines. Image

1/ An 'army mafia' has developed within Russia's invasion force in Ukraine, operating with near-impunity to smuggle commodities back into Russia and strip seized industries to sell for personal profit. A Russian commentary highlights the difficulties of tackling it. ⬇️ Image

1/ With drug use widespread on the Russian front lines, it's not surprising that soldiers are overdosing. In this video, a military medic is providing first aid to a man who has had a drug overdose, prior to sending him to a hospital. ⬇️
2/ There have been many accounts of the scale of drug use in the Russian army – "corruption, drugs, alcohol all around" as one ex-Wagner soldier has put it. At least one in ten Russian soldiers is reported to be using drugs.
3/ Drug use on the front line has been attributed to a variety of factors – boredom, stress from the continuous threat of drone attacks, disillusionment, lack of oversight by absent commanders, ready availability of drugs in the gangster-ridden occupied territories.

1/ Investigations into suspected crimes in the Russian 5th Brigade, including the recent disappearance and possible murder of two officers, are reportedly hampered by an unexpected problem: investigators themselves are disappearing and possibly being murdered. ⬇️ Image
2/ Many accusations have been made against the brigade's senior officers, including "drug trafficking, robberies, looting, extortion, salary theft, trade in fuel and humanitarian aid", following the disappearance of battalion commander Yuri Burakov.
3/ An official investigation is said to have now been opened into Burakov's disappearance after he was summoned to meet his superiors, though previous attempts to investigate the 5th Brigade's affairs have apparently not produced any results. Anastasia Kashevarova writes:

1/ Donald Trump's reasons for his firing of the head of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics are an ominous echo of a notorious concept from Stalinist Russia and Nazi Germany: that of scapegoating individuals or groups as economic "wreckers" or "saboteurs". ⬇️ Soviet poster titled "The enemy is full of guile and evil" - espionage, sabotage, slander, provocations, lies
2/ A common theme in authoritarian societies is that systemic failures, politically inconvenient developments, or simply the desire to suppress dissent and eliminate rivals, are tackled by declaring individual workers and officials to be guilty of economic crimes.
3/ Trump's announcement yesterday that he was sacking BLS head Dr. Erika McEntarfer used language strongly reminiscent of Soviet-era denunciations of "wreckers" and "saboteurs". He claimed without evidence that she "manipulated" and "faked" statistics.
