We'll shortly be reporting the second afternoon session of day 8 of evidence from the hearing of Ms B Hutchison & others v County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust being held at Newcastle Employment Tribunal.
J Just one matter TW to do with JD's witness statement on p198. In para 34 if you read that and over the page into next para.
TW Sorry, I don't think I'm in the right place [finds it]
J To the end of the sentance about speaking to anyone else about it. JB is suggesting to speak to Rose
J She's suggesting u didnt want to speak to Rose and that no-one shld
TW It's a v sensitive thing
J Does JB have this right
TW Yes
J It's v sensitive. We'd like to understand why no-one shld speak to her. Why do u think it shldnt be right
TW It's a very sensitive discussion. What the rumours are. I wldnt have felt comfy asking those Qs of anyone
J Cldnt it be done in a sensitive manner
TW probabaly it cld have been done in a sensitive manner
J So nobody had a discussion w Rose
TW We were ve busy. Lots of staff v unhappy with what RH was being put thru. Lots of unrest and support for Rose. Lesbians asking if they had to leave the CR
J I understand lots of positions and rumblings, but no-one spoke to Rose
TW We were supporting her. We hadnt witnessed and behaviour and not in CR at the same time
J The rumblings continued
TW We were trying to run the service
J The rumblings were known by Rose
Yes
J When did Rose become aware of rumblings
TW I think the petition. She was v happy and good at job. Happy she was accepted by all the multi disc team eg anaesthetists. It was a stressful time for Rose but these were v supportive discussions
J Did u know if Rose was aware of discomfort b4 the petiton
TW Not as far as I know
J Did u speak to Rose about the petition
TW I never saw the letter and Rose went off sick some time after that
J Did Jody see the letter
TW I think so but I dont know
J Did u speak to Rose when u became aware of the petirion
TW Not in depth. I asked are you alright, can we support you? It was a v difficult time for her.
J Just bear w me one moment. U mentioned the start times of 7.30 am and 8am
TW We finish at 6pm and go out tog as a team or go home
TW Teams go in tog. I dont know the times of DSU but think they close at 7.30. They're not in the CR when we're in the CR
J You end at 6pm?
TW Hopefully
J Do u ever finish later
TW There's stuff to do
J Y're due to finish at 6 but may finish earlier or late
TW Yes
J Do theatre staff all use that CR
TW Yes
J When you say 6pm is that for all theatres
TW Yes. Darlington has 11 theatres, a lot
J So if all finish at 6pm they all decamp into the CR. What sitn might an indiv find themselves alone in CR
TW Might have gone to the loo
J To get changed
TW Is very rare to be in the CR and be alone. Have drs, anaesthetists and radiographers going in there
J Do u know whether any staff have left the trust cos the concerns over CR
TW Not that I'm aware of
SC I have no further Qs
J That takes us to the end of the day I think. I have yr witness timetable. we have Sandra Watson at 10am on Monday. I've read [anothers] statement
SC I dont want Sue Williams to be in the middle of giving evidence when we have next Thurs off.
SC We have Prof Phoenix on Monday
J Do u have an idea of how long y'll be NF?
SC U have 4 hours down!
SC We have to wait for Prof Phoenix, and possibly give submissions on Mon am if we have her on Fri
NF There are arrangements in place for Prof P which have cost implications
SC I have no objections if that evidence is given remotely.
NF I'd favour short answers
J We've had one witness by remote from Scotland. Can we discuss that unless a pressing need for her to be in person. If we can deal w her on Fri by CVP. See you all on Monday.
