Rose was born into a large Orthodox family. Her father, Solomon, was an accomplished tailor. Responsibility was thrust upon her as an innocent and wide-eyed 14-year old when she and her family were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau in April 1944.

Eva was the only child in a well-to-do family. Her father was a lawyer, and her mother was a doctor. Eva enjoyed the luxuries that life had to offer. At the age of twelve, her life changed forever when she and her family were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Aga was born into a poor family in 1926, in a small village in Austro-Hungary. Aga was one of seven children. In 1944 she and her family were taken to the town of Mukachevo. Shortly after, they were loaded into a cattle train and sent to Auschwitz.

Tova was born in Gdynia, Poland, adjacent to Danzig. Her family came from Tomaszow Mazowiecki, Poland, and returned there when the war broke out. Her father was shocked at the devastation of his town. 15,000 Jews were cramped into six four-story buildings, unable to leave.

Samuel Beller was born in Oświęcim, Poland. He recalls the anxious feeling the Jews of his town felt weeks before the invasion of Poland by the Nazis: the fiery, red-painted sky, an indication that something terrible was on the horizon. He was right.

Jona was 9 years old when Germany invaded Poland in September 1939. Jews were to identify themselves with a yellow badge and could not be on the street after 5pm. They were not allowed to attend school. Signs in all social places read, "Jews and dogs are not permitted to enter."

The world lost another #Auschwitz survivor. With great sadness, we share that Michael Silberstein passed away Saturday evening, April 9.

On February 10, 1930, Michael was born in Grudziadz, a small Polish town. He was the youngest of 4 children, with 2 sisters & an older brother. Although the family was from Łódź, they moved to Grudziadz for better financial opportunities before Michael was born.
