At the airport waiting on flight to see Mom in ICU. Promised I would tell her story to the world before she’s gone. She is my hero, shaped the man I am today, and the most OG #hacker when Kevin Mitnick was still in diapers.
Prepare for a mega thread. RTs welcome! 1/x
Grew up in a bad home, left at 13 and took her 5yo brother too. Went off grid. Got a job, apartment, everything. She was always tall and attractive, so she made a life for them in relative safety.
Learned to socially engineer people at a pretty young age. 2/x

Due to @mzbat's mentor post, I'm going to start a thread about federal civil service, and why you should seriously consider it! I realize that's a touchy subject for some (considering current politics), but there's a lot of benefits to it:
2/ Juniors especially should think about it. You can work your way into the security clearance world, and rapidly move around with contractors. Fed contracts are a high risk/high reward area, but you can gain tons of exp and fill your resume up with interesting mission support.
1/ Met a gentleman this morning outside our agency building today. Enjoyed some small talk; turns out he just got picked up for a dream infosec job. His first actually. Had joined the USAF in aircraft maintenance, pushed himself to learn IT after hours.
2/ You could tell within the first 30 seconds how passionate he is about this field, and how his intelligence and drive would take him far. By 60 seconds, you could also see his self-doubt & tendencies towards Impostor Syndrome.
