We have verified with law enforcement officials in Galveston, that the photograph taken in Galveston is real. It is hard to understand why these officers felt this young man required a leash, as he was handcuffed and walking between two mounted officers. It is a scene that has invoked anger, disgust, and questions from the community. We will be watching for the Galveston Police Department’s response to their investigation of this matter and the accountability of the officers involved.

We need more than a resolution, we need clear and consistent moral leadership across the board. These are rough times and we need leaders who will put our communities first consistently across the board. 1/ My life has been in service of others. As a mom, teacher, community organizer I always focused on making sure people were cared for and protected. The current seat holder of TX-14 sits silent as members of his party embrace racism and hatred that hasn’t been seen in decades. 2/

Today the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments on an ACA lawsuit in which opponents of the law have continued to argue for total repeal but have NOT provided an alternative. Texas state legislatures failed to pass any healthcare reform. #healthcare #HealthcareForAll 1/ Approx 17% of people in TX-14 are uninsured (2016). In Jefferson County that number rises to 21.5%. Texas ranks last in health care access and affordability. One-third of hispanic adults and 20% of AA adults were uninsured in 2017. We deserve better. #HealthcareForAll 2/
