Informative Thread: I’ve gotten several request to elaborate on the basement egress window requirements in NYC & NY State Codes. The below was a bedroom window in a basement apartment... So what’s the problem? Well if the unit entry is blocked in an emergency, the occupants are trapped. This becomes a life safety issue. Certain states building codes require a second means of egress (or exit) directly from a basement bedroom. It can be a door or an egress window.

Aside from the general idea of retaining an architect, property owners looking to renovate or build are often confused by Construction Administration (or CA). I’d like to shed some light on it. CA is nothing more than an architect’s overview & coordinations during the construction of a project. Gives the owner another set of eyes. Usually includes periodic site visits & observations of the progress. Any problems or non-complaint construction is reported to the owner.
