In the original #lastofus Tommy and his wife, Maria, were both White with blond hair. In #TheLastOfUsHBO Tommy is a Mexican and Maria is a Black woman who calls their community in Jackson, WY a communist commune. Jackson is a fictional town, but Wyoming is very real, very conservative and very White. (Even more so in 2003, when the outbreak happened in the show)

The Jewish hatred toward the West long predates Christianity as do the basic principles of civilizational entropy and decline. Rome declined because it opened its upper echelons to outsiders and over extended itself. Perhaps aspects of Christian Universalism assisted in this, but those same aspects certainly didn't hinder the Renaissance and subsequent colonialist expansion.

Not only are these initials for Ana DeWitt, i.e. Elizabeth, but it's also "anno domini." (The year of our Lord) While probably obvious to some, it shows how Ken Levine went to great lengths to achieve his desired symbolism. He named the "protagonist" Booker 'DeWitt', so that he could name the daughter 'Ana DeWitt', so that Booker's hand would read "AD." For me that really highlights just how important is was for him to signal "anno domini" in a strange pejorative context.
