The appalling experience of a 13 year old rape victim waiting over 2 years for her trial because of a shortage of judges is far from rare. I’ve been back at the criminal bar for 9 months-in my experience the criminal justice system is on its knees. Desperately underfunded
#Today I have clients accused of rape & other serious offences waiting 3 years for trial. We don’t have enough barristers (with the knock on effect of not enough judges) because of 28% cuts to fees. Our prisons are in crisis; court staff poorly paid working in crumbling courts.

It results in the Chair of Asda Stuart Rose actually admitting in his analysis of the state of our economy (BBC1 this morning) he’s not allowed to mention #Brexit. The leaders of the Brexit campaign promised so much but they are not being held to account on why so little (if anything) has been delivered. No one seems even to question what harm #Brexit is causing our economy.

1/4 I first encountered the ideologically driven hard right in the Tory party as a student. Over the years they haven’t changed. They are unflinching in their belief they are right and nothing will get in their way.

2/4 Lying, denying the reality of any situation that doesn’t match their ideology, bullying and devious tactics come naturally to them. Until now they’ve largely been kept out of power by sensible moderates in the Conservative Party.
