In 2022 @nytimes, interviewed me for a story about parents who changed their politics due to Covid-19 school closures & related mandates.
I told the reporter I was a NYC Democrat who voted for Biden.
The article linked me to a "Stop the Steal" group.
I demanded & received a correction (they also slurred me as an "anti-vaxxer" because I opposed Covid vaccine mandates for kids).

Today's @nytimes features a story about my good friend @MaudMaron- we've fought alongside each other for 4 years now- in '20 to reopen schools, '21 to end child Covid mask/vax mandates & for the last 2 years to restore American values to our schools.
Over the past few months, I've tried to elevate voices from the HoH & deaf community. So little consideration has been given to their struggles to navigate public life with mask mandates. I have heard from a number of HoH community & advocates via DM's.

Though until last week, I had yet to encounter an HoH person who was personally affected by masks.
We were on a family trip to Southern CA, staying at a small hotel. One morning, I went to the lobby to get breakfast items for the kids. I was late, so the front desk staff...

"Sit at assigned table only. No passing of food items between tables. No loud talking. Do not take anything from the dining room."
This is a Minnesota prison's lunch rules. Even, so they are less restrictive than the school lunch in America. theguardian.com/us-news/2016/s…

Today kids are lunching on cold, frozen ground, spaced apart on buckets, on floors of gyms & hallways or, if they're lucky, silent & spaced 6 feet apart, facing same direction in school cafeterias.
Their school meals are devoid of joy, humanity & communal nature of eating.

#MaskLikeAKid asked the Hard-of-Hearing community how masking has affected both parents & kids.
A deaf mom of deaf children (who wished to remain anonymous) shared her story: "Every gain my hearing aids give me, the masks take away.
I am back to being a dependent person.

I take my hearing child with me on important errands so she can do the listening for me.
I see my other 2 HOH kids struggling in class and with making friends and it breaks my heart.
But they love school and don't want to give it up!

.@AAPPres@AmerAcadPeds You knew this all along & denied it. Now *LISTEN* to the students:
"It's been really important to me to see my teachers' faces and see their face light up when someone gets a question right."

"You feel like you have more of a connection with the teacher when you can see their facial expression and the emotion towards what they're teaching."

This is Melanie Gabriel, A Washington State HS freshman with a 504/disability. Last year she fought to reopen schools, & now due to mask mandates, she is unable to attend school, herself.
Listen to her story. Share it with your kids. #MaskLikeAKid

Melanie courageously talks about her awakening:
"I opened my eyes & realized that what the public schools were putting us through with the lockdowns & online school was *torture.* It has this horrible impact on our mental health... I got out & I got loud."

Where are @apoorva_nyc's editors after last week's outrageously misleading article & retractions?
Today's piece nytimes.com/2021/10/12/hea… is another mess! (thread)
In which, @apoorva_nyc refers to "so-called natural immunity." It’s 'so called' because it exists! @CDCgov even documents it.
“Natural immunity is acquired from exposure to the disease organism through infection with the actual disease.”
