CBC’s van slide off the road & got stuck in a ditch beside the protestors’ camp in Arnprior. A demonstrator named Tyson Garneau wearing a “defund the CBC” hat pulled us out knowing we were CBC journalists. He said he’d never leave anyone stuck like that. Garneau says he’s been sleeping in the back of his truck during the ‘freedom convoy’ & arrived at the Arnprior camp today after visiting the camp in Vankleek Hill. He lost his job as a trucker & doesn’t know what comes next but said he wants freedom for his grandkids.

Coming off last night’s TVA debate, Conservative leader Erin O’Toole is in Montreal this morning talking about his plan to tackle gun and gang violence. #cdnpoli O’Toole said during the TVA debate and again this morning he will maintain the ban on assault weapons. But his platform on of 90 says “he will start by repealing C-71 and the May 2020 Order in Council conducting a review of the Firearms Act.” #cdnpoli

Canada's evacuation efforts in Afghanistan have ended. Only a small continent of troops remain on the ground. The Canadian Armed Forces helped airlifted an estimated 3,700 people out of Afghanistan, said acting Chief of Defence Staff General Wayne Eyre. #cdnpoli Gen. Eyre said Canada stayed in Afghanistan as long as possible and wishes they could have stayed longer and "rescue everyone so desperate to leave". He calls this one of the most dangerous and complex operations in history. #cdnpoli

Canada has brought 2,700 people out of Afghanistan on flights since beginning of Aug. including Afghan nationals, Canadians and permanent residents. More than 1,000 of them have arrived in Canada, 300 are now done quarantine, said Canada’s immigration minister. #cdnpoli Canada is also planning the next stage if its operation and will continue supporting the United Nations’ international response to the region, said the Minister of a Immigration. Breaking: A government official confirms Canada’s special operations forces "have been and continue to work outside" the gates of the airport in Kabul to help get Canadians and eligible Afghans through the security gates to get onboard planes. #cdnpoli Prior to this, Liberal leader Justin Trudeau and cabinet ministers had been saying for operational security reasons they couldn't disclose if the Canadian Armed Forces would go outside the Kabul airport to help people get into the airport's gates.
