One example of the tendency of social media to amplify bad-news stories without important contextual information is when people share the "fuel mix" charts from the ISO-New England website -- particularly on hot days like today.
Important things to keep in mind: 1. These charts are real-time snapshots of the sources of electricity consumed in New England -- not the average contributions of different resources over the course of the year.

It's possible that a "net zero emissions by 2050" target will result in little to no improvement over the state’s existing legal mandate to reduce greenhouse gas pollution. [thread] #mapoli@MassGovernor The Global Warming Solutions Act, passed in 2008, requires the state to reduce emissions by 80% by 2050. This requirement has been interpreted as an 80% reduction in gross emissions -- i.e., reducing the amount of carbon we release, mostly from burning fossil fuels. 2/
