Aside from your crème brûlée not being crunchy enough or your helicopter-limousine's wet bar being insufficiently stocked, when the fuck have you ever faced even a millisecond of discomfort in your entire entitled life? I retract a bit.

It was probably "discomforting" when mom said dad raped her.

And it was probably "discomforting" when 20+ other women said it too.

And it was probably "discomforting" when dad took out a full page ad calling for the execution of 5 innocent black men.

THREAD: Family got "swabbed" today

1. Calling it a "swab" conjures up visions of a Q-Tip, which is wrong. It's far more like one of those plastic, serrated toothpicks.

2. The test wasn't as bad as I had expected (disclaimer: wife says was worse than she had)

3. But...

The only word to describe the overall experience is "dystopian."

Like, Disney from hell.

To be absolutely clear... the people were amazing, warm, calming and I couldn't be more thankful.

But the experience? It was the stuff of science fiction nightmares of my youth.

Golly, I wonder why so many Republicans would be supporting Bernie?

See, Election of 1972. In '72, Republicans already knew Nixon was a crook.

Democrats nominate McGovern, a Senator from South Dakota. At the time, McGovern was about as liberal (progressive) as it got in politics.

I lost my dad 5 years ago. He lost his when he was 14. This picture of him (far left) with my grandma and my uncles is something else.

1/ My uncle Paul passed many years ago. Try to tell me he couldn't have been a movie star. Instead, he went to Vietnam. He returned and was never the same.

As we all watch @JoeNBC & @morningmika clutch their pearls over the #Nats fans last night, let's just recall a few of their better moments that brought us to where we are.

1. Trump was brilliant to avoid taxes...

businessinsider.com/morning-joe-tr… @JoeNBC @morningmika 2. Hillary was just a big fat liar about her secret email server...

Had a random call with someone who used to be the dearest of friends.

Great call for 20 minutes.

Then came MAGA.

I plainly asked, "Tell me 1 thing he could do to lose your vote."

After a pause, he seriously said, "I'll have to get back to you on that."

Definitely not a cult. This guy is the one that cuts the deepest.

Our wives were friends.
Our kids were friends.
We're both religious Jews.
We golfed.
We liked the same humor.
Knew all the same lines to all the same movies.

1/ A very brief thread on how I see the 2020 election...

I like to drink soda water. Many don't.
Some people like to drink Coke, or Diet Coke, or even (gulp) Pepsi.
Still others like tea, sweetened maybe.
And many just like water. 2/ No matter people's tastes, I've never heard anyone say, in seriousness, "Even if I was dying of thirst, I wouldn't drink _______!"

Because that would be ridiculous, right?

Okay... MAYBE Diet Pepsi... but ANY ONE of them would, at least periodically, stave off death.

I can't believe the conditions in Baltimore!

Wait... I'm sorry. These aren't from Baltimore.

They're from the places @Jim_Jordan & @senatemajldr represent. Here we go, like I said, I can't believe the conditions in Baltimore!

Dang it, I did it again.

These are from the places @mattgaetz & @LindseyGrahamSC represent.

BRIEF THREAD: 1/ I repay my student loans from law school under the Income-Based Repayment Plan because I contracted with the Federal Government that if I did so, in 20 years, any balance would be forgiven. Trump's proposed budget purports to do away with that forgiveness plan. 2/ The impact of selecting the IBR plan is that interest accrues if not paid, and then the borrower (me) incurs interest on interest as it accrues. Now, I try to keep up with the interest, at a minimum, but that is difficult given the amount of the debt.

The thing that gets me about the #JussieSmollett story is that 3 days ago we learned that Trump's folks tried to give nuclear secrets to Saudi Arabia, a Coast Guard LT. was arrested with a battery of arms & a list of targets, and we're STILL holding kids in cages. 1/ But while we're talking about it... here's the thing.

It seems clear he broke the law and should face the consequences. His reasons were his reasons, unimaginable as they seem to most of us.

But if Trump thinks this is some kinda MAGA vindication, think the hell again.

THREAD: Much punditry around the #FloridaRecount but not much in the way of education regarding what is, in fact, happening and is supposed to happen under the law.

After 14 hours working the recount in my county, I want to get a few things straight. Let's dig in.

1/
The initial "recount" is mandated by law if any contest is within .50%. Most know this. But what they don't know if how this "machine recount" works. Across the state VOLUNTEER poll workers are sitting in front of voting machines simply re-feeding the ballots. That is it.

SHORT THREAD: With @senatemajldr Mitch McConnell's second straight day of ranting from the Senate floor, a quick note on the depth of hypocrisy he displays.

I'm not talking about his complaints of delay after he blocked Garland for, well, forever. There's something deeper.

1/
It is related to Garland, but not how you think.

Why did they block Garland? The most common refrain was that it would be improper to permit a liberal President from filling Scalia's seat, with a dash and sprinkle of "balance of the court" sanctity BS.

THREAD: #Kavanaugh was an objectively-terrible witness. He was obtuse. He was evasive. He lost his cool. He, at best, was extremely loose with verifiable truths.

How could he be SOOOO BAD, right?

I'll tell you how he could be so bad. Because "Judge Kavanaugh"...

1/
... is not, and has never been, the type of "Judge" most think of and, frankly, the same is true of him as an attorney.

Yeah, he has a Bar card. Yeah, he wears a black robe.

But here is a question that no Senator asked but I wish one had...

My wife leaves for Dilley, TX, tomorrow for a week providing pro bono legal help to immigrant families. I'll be home with our 3 kids.

This morning I told her, "You focus on those kids for 1 week, I've got ours."

Please RT to show how many are counting on her and her colleagues. Wow! Please know, all of you, that your support has blown us both away. When she returns, I will share her reflections of the lengths people will go, and the horrors they will endure, to be a part of the America that is still here, still strong, and always great.

THANK YOU!
