I’m an advocate for open access publishing of scholarship & try my best to support these types of venues (e.g. I’m book review editor for @ReligionFilmUNO, 1 of the oldest OA in Religious Studies)
Unfortunately there are problems with the MDPI journal “Religions”
1. Peer review - The journal's general aim for lightning speed turn around for reviews of submissions leads to a poor peer-review process in many cases. Of course, there are exceptions and most scholars involved have principled aims when reviewing.
