Adolescence is the latest example of a long lineage of media manipulation, shaping public perception, fuelling moral panics, and justifying censorship.

‘Entertainment is sugar-coating for mind pills,’ wrote brainwashing expert Edward Hunter. 🧵 Image Many assume propaganda only flourishes under authoritarian regimes. But television can enable all regimes to tighten their rule using ‘soft autocracy’. Just like drugs, entertainment undoes your sophistication, relaxes you, makes you more suggestible. Image

🚨 Hospices are at risk 🚨

If the Assisted Dying Bill passes, hospices reliant on government funding will be required to provide assisted dying - a seismic and deeply troubling change.

Learn more, take action and write to your MP 🧵 Image Throughout the assisted dying debate, the Committee’s outright rejection of amendments designed to safeguard the vulnerable has been unreasonably rigid and absolutist. Now hospices are to be undermined in a profound and irreversible way.

😱 Defund hospices if they don’t offer a service to hasten death?

At a time when hospices are struggling with NI rises and inflation, they now face pressure to offer lethal drugs to patients. If one were cynical, one might see a pattern.🧵 Hospice care is about comfort, dignity, and supporting a natural end-of-life process. Assisted dying shifts the focus from easing the dying process to actively ending life, undermining the very purpose of hospice care!

The assisted dying bill is being rushed through with ghoulish haste. 🧵 Image The UK's Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill should be unhurried, careful, and dignified. Instead, the committee scrutinising it is racing through and is stacked in its favour, with only eight of 23 MPs actively dissenting.

Fathers are often cast as the villain in divorces and family breakdowns. But there is another story to tell - when a mother, in the aftermath, wields her children as tools to punish the father. A thread on a quieter, darker tale. 🧵 Image In myths and psychology, the 'devouring mother' is a term for an archetype coined by Carl Jung, one who overprotects, controls, and ultimately stifles her child's ability to mature into an independent adult.

We live in a Britain that's barely recognisable. Our borders are wide open, our citizens struggle, and yet Starmer expects young Brits to fight abroad? There's a total disconnect between our leaders and the people they serve. 🧵 Image British taxpayers are already crushed under one of the highest tax burdens in decades. The cost of living crisis shows no sign of easing. The government can fund a foreign war, but not Winter Fuel Payments for pensioners struggling to stay warm.

🔥 The ‘Trump Gaza’ video is a masterclass in psychological warfare.

A surreal vision of conquest, humiliation, and dominance, wrapped in gold and absurdity. I break down the propaganda. 🧵👇

The ‘Trump Gaza’ video is an exercise in psychological warfare, blending satire, provocation and symbolic dominance. It presents an exaggerated, surreal vision of Gaza’s future, one that is both deliberately offensive to Hamas and a declaration of Western power. The imagery is laden with cultural and political messaging, turning Gaza into a spectacle of conquest. @realDonaldTrump @elonmusk

I talked to BBC #PoliticsLive about the #WestminsterDeclaration. You don't improve democracy by militantly labelling speech as misinformation. @shellenberger @toadmeister @MrWinMarshall I gave 5 reasons why:
1. Free speech is important in a democracy, it benefits all of us. It’s also how science and all fields develop and grow over time. Attacks on free speech have been a precursor to other attacks on liberty throughout history.

First they came for the truckers, and I did not speak out
- Because I was not a trucker.

Then they came for the donors to truckers, and I did not speak out - Because I was not a donor to truckers.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

🇨🇦 Totalitarian language borrows from doctrines of democracy and liberalism. Trudeau talks about keeping Canada safe and characterises truckers as misogynist, racist, nazi, anti-vaxx, which is subversively designed to appeal to liberals. Sowing deliberate division and discord.

📢 VACCINE PASSPORTS

✍️ Please write to your MP asking then to stop vaccine passports.

Find your MP here and make sure you include your name and address so they know you are a constituent. writetothem.com Parliament's @CommonsPACAC found there was "no justification for them [Covid passes] in the science and none in logic."

This is wrong.

I hoped the most benign interpretation was that the government was bullying young people. (And that's not very 'benign', is it?) But no, they seem committed to introducing an illiberal ID system that robs you of bodily autonomy. And this is despite 9/10 Brits having antibodies already. (ONS.) 88.1% adults had 1st dose vax already and 69.1% 2nd dose. Introducing a passport now is beyond the point of diminishing returns. Where is the cost benefit analysis? The scientific evidence? The impact statement?

Or... don't. Because it's just not a normal friendship conversation.

telegraph.co.uk/health-fitness… 'More than nine in 10 UK adults say they are happy to receive a Covid vaccine.' This is '8 out 10 cats prefer Whiskas'. Social conformity & norms. It's 'safe' to make the same choice as everyone else.

Simon Stevens has said that 20,426 people are being treated for Covid in hospitals in England, which is higher than the previous peak of about 19,000 in April.

This compares two absolute numbers, but there are serious problems.

bbc.co.uk/news/health-55… 1. It’s winter and we always have more patients in winter than we do in April. For background context let’s compare occupancy and ICU for this December with previous Decembers going back 5 years.

My feature The Detransitioners 🦎 was the third most read story in the Times and Sunday Times in 2020.

Thank you to @km_km_km_ and @thesundaytimes for running it and being an absolute dream to work with.

thetimes.co.uk/article/the-10… I was warned to expect a backlash, and had a few refusals. But this was an important story and I knew I could tell it with compassion and integrity. The women who trusted me and took part are truly brave and have lived several lifetimes in one.

On 19 Nov there was a coordinated campaign of over 300 tweets, comprised of accounts which look genuine and some which seem to be bots.

Who initiated this campaign and who deployed these accounts to push for online censorship? This is a thread containing some information, some questions, and not many firm answers. The campaign was clumsy enough to be spotted, and it was interestingly timed.

A vaccine seems like the happy ending to the horrible story of 2020, but happy endings are not written in the language of coercive control, emotional manipulation and threats. This is an example: telegraph.co.uk/business/2020/…

Another example is health ministers threatening mandation which would need changes to the law.
