Polls close in 5 minutes in NY. Some races I'm watching:
-#NYGov (obviously)
-Congress: #NY01, #NY02, #NY03, #NY04, #NY17, #NY18, #NY19, #NY22
-Senate Districts: 1, 7, 9, 23, 37-44, 48, & 50
-Statewide Ballot Prop 1
-3 NYC Ballot Props Reminder: in New York, absentee ballots received prior to election day are pre-processed and included in unofficial election night tallies!

Those absentees and early voting are likely the first results we're seeing.

I've read/skimmed through the bulk of the comments submitted to the NY Special Master on the proposed Congressional & State Senate maps.

A thread on some of the more common issues brought up: Some of the suggestions are obvious, common sense changes. Some are good ideas but may require somewhat larger changes.

Others are difficult or impossible really to accomplish, but are still common complaints

Their proposal is, uh, certainly something, that's for sure Outside of NYC, they propose gerrymandering Long Island to make a clearly GOP-leaning NY-02 that doesn't at all reflect the North Shore/South Shore divide, make clearly Republican-leaning changes to the Hudson Valley districts...

The full NY Senate is about to vote on a TON of incredible reform efforts to BOEs and for pollworkers! Really hoping these can also make their way through the Assembly before the legislative session ends! Perhaps the most important bill they'll pass in the Senate today would completely restructure the NYC Board of Elections: nysenate.gov/legislation/bi…

With in-person early votes & election day votes in, Write-ins lead the Buffalo Mayoral race by over 17%.

Here's a breakdown of winner performance by precinct and municipality: For a clearer look at the race, here's the margin of victory in each precinct and ward with these unofficial results.

Byron Brown's write-in campaign got a *ton* of support in South Buffalo:

Some advice as people start to come up with takeaways from election results in NY:

1) Wait for absentees to be tallied before coming to any grand conclusions
2) Compare to similar elections. Presidential to off-year municipal is... not a great comparison. Now, that said: while we've still got to wait for absentees, clearly there were some failures for Dems -- so far, primarily in Long Island and on 3 statewide ballot proposals that should've passed easily.

Polls are closed in New York! One thing I want everyone to note as results come in: in the Buffalo Mayoral race, write-in votes are NOT going to be broken down by *who* voters wrote-in. It'll be all write-ins. That includes Byron Brown, Mickey Mouse, you name it.

It's nearly 4 PM, and the NYC BOE Election Night Results site still isn't up.

Counties with precinct-level ENR sites already up include: Monroe, Niagara, Onondaga, and Orange It's unclear what election night results we'll get in as many as 33 counties.

New York needs to standardize election results reporting.

In 2020, Republican congressman Andrew Garbarino won #NY02, succeeding Pete King, by almost 7% against Democratic candidate Jackie Gordon.

Here's a map breaking down the margin of victory by precinct, as well as Garbarino & Gordon's performances by party line: At the same time, in the presidential general election, Trump beat Biden in #NY02 by just over 4%.
