Been meaning to do a thread on this article:

We aren't cutting into the bone anymore. We are cutting into the marrow. Our nation's lack of investment in #publicbealth jeopardizes our future.

This article misses some stuff that warrants discussion. 1/9cnn.com/2023/07/14/hea… First, the $3.2B - the impact of which will be decrease by other cuts - is at the discretion of the governors. The same governors who were antagonistic during #COVID19 to #publichealth. There is no national public health plan or standards to which these funds must be applied. 2/9

It has been fascinating to read the comments on this tweet. First off, I never said anything about masking policy for anyone. I stated that there is no scientific evidence linking speech delay with masks and MDs asserting such is dangerous. 1/8 I asked a question about "parental choice" against a backdrop of parental choice justifying discarding or ending Covid mandates & routine childhood vaccinations & changes in school curriculum & which books should be available. Updated in 2020, it centers health equity as a cross cutting responsibility. cdc.gov/publichealthga… 2/12 Image

Okay. Morning rant. These are bad data and worse reporting. Let’s break this down a bit.

(1) @sangerkatz just uses the term epidemiologists. If you needed surgery on your heart would you go to a doctor or a cardiologist? Epis are the same. There are lots of different types. (2) They sent the survey to more than 6,500 people. 511 responded. Who are those 511??Are they more risk averse? Maybe they did like handshakes or hugs to begin with. So everyone saying “epidemiologists say this” are way overstating.
