Some of the most common reasons why #SEO doesn’t deliver the expected results…

A 🧵that looks at some of the possible reasons why you might not be seeing growth despite ‘doing SEO.’ 👉 Nothings actually getting implemented.

Often, too much time is spent talking about what could be done rather than doing it.

Getting things implemented should be your priority. Things sat with a developer or in an approval queue aren’t driving growth.

I’ve been doing #SEO for 15 years, and with experience you start to build mental models of where to start looking for issues and opportunities.

Here’s a 🧵 of some of the first things I look at, do and check for when starting to audit any site to put together a strategy.

👇 Before diving deep into audits or putting together a strategy, you need to steer these in a certain direction.

But no two sites are the same.

The first thing I do when working on a new site is to spend time looking at areas that can help to reveal where I need to go deeper.

If I had 3 to 6 months to show significant growth via SEO for an existing site, here’s where I’d focus my efforts…

A 🧵 about SEO prioritisation.

👇 💰 First of all, I want to define what success looks like.

By knowing what success means in $, I can take average conversion rate and AOV to calculate the uplift in traffic needed to achieve these results.

Working backwards here is so important.

This is one of the most important SEO articles there is out there right now 👇

Here’s a quick 🧵 that rounds up the most important things you need to know from it… “The IS Score is Google’s primary top-level metric of Search quality. That score is computed from search quality rater rankings. It is “an approximation of user utility.””

Are you missing any of these simple ways to demonstrate E-E-A-T?

A 🧵 of 12 of the most common opportunities I see when auditing sites… 1. Make it clear who is behind the content on your site.

I still see so many sites with blog or guide content that doesn’t show who the author is on the page.

If your content (posts, pages, categories) isn't ranking at the top of the SERPs, do these things to try and figure out why...

A 🧵 about finding the real issues that are holding your site back.

👇 1. Has your site earned the right to rank at all?

If your site's not ranking for anything, the isn't related to a specific page, but a sitewide issue.

Often, it's time. Brand new sites can take months to start to rank.

If this is you, keep going. You've got this.

The fundamentals of SEO can be broken down into a few things.

Get these right and you'll see growth.

Don't overcomplicate your approach and focus on advanced tactics unless you've got the basics sorted first.

🚀 1. Keyword research

Too often, content is published without taking the time to do proper keyword research.

Use tools like @semrush, @ahrefs or @keywordtoolio to find what people are searching for.

Then run these keywords through @keywordinsights to cluster them.

I’ve spent the last few weeks working out where we can bring GPT-3 / ChatGPT into our #SEO and #digitalPR workflows at @digitaloftuk.

Here’s just a few simple ways we’re already (or soon will be) using it.

👇 💡Writing meta descriptions.

Nobody really likes writing meta descriptions, especially in bulk.

We use @airtable to house content roadmaps, and I hooked up @OpenAI with @data_fetcher to write meta descriptions from a prompt based on the page content.

Be everything you can to your clients at the moment and they’ll stand by you all they can. Help them adapt to the current climate and be more than just a supplier; be a friend and, most of all, listen. I’ve had a few calls today and a lot conversation wasn’t about campaigns... Rather, listening to the challenges we’re all facing at the moment and sharing thoughts on solutions. I’m not a HR guy, but I listened to a client’s worries over staff who can’t really work from home wanting to do so. Even if you don’t have answers, talking helps!
