Shocking new in @TorontoStar⁩ piece about the woman killed by a slaughter truck while protesting Ontario’s ag gag law. Driver was told by 911 not to move just moments before he plowed into her. This info never made it into the court case against him. thestar.com/news/canada/po… There’s a video from the Star narrated by @_kevindonovan that plays the 911 call and shows surveillance video of Regan Russell standing in plain sight while she is run over by the trucker. Warning: contains scenes of death.

The @CanadianGreens platform is out, and it has the only serious commitment in this election re farmed animal abuse & transforming our food system, including a commitment to promoting plant-based & reducing animal consumption.

See pp 20-23 for details. greenparty.ca/sites/default/… The Greens acknowledge that, "Factory farms crowd
animals in poor welfare conditions and create an artificial abundance of animal products
that contribute to unhealthy diets." Meat/dairy/egg lobbyists have a stranglehold on federal politicians, so this is a fairly bold statement.

I've heard from a LOT of animal lovers who are considering voting Conservative for the first time after @erinotoole made a campaign announcement about banning puppy mills, cosmetic testing, and some other animal issues. To be sure, this isn't enough. We need legislation to crack down on farm & transport cruelty, etc. But to the best of my recollection, this is the first time EVER in a federal election campaign that a major party has made an animal protection announcement. It's a big deal.

At the Fisheries Committee, which will determine the fate of Bill S-203 in a few moments. Will the Liberals kill the whale & dolphin Bill? We’ll know soon. #cdnpoli First Conservative amendment proposed seems to be at the behest of the Vancouver Aquarium, to deal with motherless whales that are found and may be rescued. Liberals vote against and it is defeated.
