I honestly think many Americans are misunderstanding the European context here. The European Union struck financial deals with Tunisia, Morocco and Mauritania, to stop illegal migration into Europe. These countries used(s) EU tax payer money to dump non-Muslim black African migrants in the Sahara desert to die, thereby meeting EU targets to still get paid.
This isn’t that widely known. The Pope himself hasn’t addressed this head on. He has spoken about migrant dumping in the Sahara, without calling out the Muslims who do this to Christian black Africans, whilst letting fellow Muslims through to attempt to cross the Mediterranean.

A thread of the secretive Vatican-China agreement on the appointment of Bishops, which is set the expire tomorrow but all indications are that it will be renewed for at least another two years, under same conditions of the original provisional agreement of 2018.
