Yesterday, @krakenfx agreed to wind down its "staking-as-a-service" offering to its customers in the USA and paid $30M to @SECGov to settle the charges of offering unregistered securities.

One of the arguments by the SEC was that Kraken's offering wasn't a pure 'staking' product but more like a 'yield' product.
The SEC noted that the rewards advertised by Kraken were different from the rewards that the user could have generated themselves via staking directly.

Staking 🤝 DeFi = Liquid Staking
Most people relate Liquid Staking to protocols on Ethereum and Solana but trust us when we say this:
When you delegate your assets (say ATOM) to a validator like @ChorusOne, your ATOMs accrue rewards.
But they're also, in a way, just resting there. You can't use them elsewhere as collateral, lend them, or use them in a Liquidity Pool.
