We're in danger of accepting, massaging, indeed promoting the poor behaviours of the minority in favour of the education of the majority.
In a local school, pupils operate within a consequence 1-6 system. On C4, a member of staff talks to the pupil and reintroduces them to class; 4 disruptions, then back in. Possibly to disrupt further. 2,3,4 pupils do this in class, you get little done other than manage behaviour

The roots are set in the States, the debutante ball was a tool to introduce young women into society, with some eligible bachelors looking on.
In the 19th Century, girls were not allowed to wear suits, nor were young women who were not white female allowed to attend.

Beahviour 1.
I was an FSM pupil. I've been a teacher for 21 yrs, a senior leader for 10 of those years. It keeps appearing, it divides educational thoughts. So, this is what I know about great behaviour (almost stole @johntomsett's line there) but not quite. Apologies John.
I've always taught within an 'opportunity area.' An area once described by and ex @Ofstednews lead as, 'those up the M55.' Within schools that were special measures, requiring improvement and in the latter stages, good to great.

Attendance Matters
It's vital. I've led in 4 high schools each demonstrating yr on yr improved att. During 1 tr att imp by 1.2% comparatively with the previous yr. I've put some thoughts together. I hope you find it useful and that this helps your attendance intervention:-
Patterns of absence can be evident but often absence is sporadic. One thing I have noted is that with some families a Wed absence can snowball into a Thurs and Fri. How do you combat culture?
