Every year, officials always seems shocked people don’t follow evacuation orders. But every year, all across 🇨🇦, many people don’t evacuate from fire- especially farmers, ranchers, or Indigenous peoples. We need to start addressing it, instead of pretending it doesn’t happen. 1/x There are lots of really important reasons people stay behind - livestock, uninsured home, expertise in fire, lack of trust in wildfire agency, lack of info, etc etc. BUT that choice doesn’t mean first responders should be put at increased risk 2/x
