Rooftop solar installations growing 40% y/y, now 1% of total US power generation.

New IRA subsidies increase the federal tax credit up to 30% (~$6K for a typical system install).

This could put electric utilities at risk of entering a "death spiral".

Why? Utilities are regulated monopolies guaranteed a % return on their capital deployed.

The electric rate is therefore determined by a formula. The required revenue # is determined first (based on the required ROIC), and divided by the amount sold to determine the rate.
