We’ve made it to Portland where the skyline is barely visible from the east side of the Willamette, the air quality here tonight is “hazardous.” With the fires burning in Oregon, upwards of 500,000 people have had to evacuate their homes. That’s 10% of the state’s pop #KOMONews This just buzzed on @AdrianKOMONews’ phone. Looks like it came out about 40 minutes ago. Having lived and worked in Portland for 4+ years, it’s hard to imagine a town like Canby under a “BE SET” notice #KOMONews #LiveOnK2 Image

A look at opposing rallies in Shelton this afternoon. On one side, a “Back the Blue” crowd. On the other, Black Lives Matter. Plenty of police, open carry and chanting going on. BLM supporters have marched to the Mason Co Juvenile Detention Center #KOMONews Police breakup a group of people getting chippy. Haven’t seen any violence so far. I did speak with one woman with the BLM group who’s from Shelton. She says she’s disappointed to see the “racism” in the place she grew up #KOMONews

A look down 3rd Way SE from School St. SE. It’s hard to make out much of anything between how dark it is and the flashing lights. It appears as though the windshield of this truck has bullet holes in it #KOMONews Speaking now, PIO with @ThurstonSheriff. “There was a confrontation,” shots were fired into vehicle. “We are not confirming the involved identity” of man killed, only saying he had an outstanding warrant for homicide #KOMONews Image

A new-look @SeattlePD East Precinct this afternoon. In addition to a wall of reinforced concrete barriers, this chain link fence was bolted down on top of it. Still a few @seattledot crews out here with some nearby roads closed #KOMONews ImageImageImage We’ve already heard a few people ask “how much is that costing me as a taxpayer?” That’s a good question and one we’re trying to get answered, along with who made the call to put it up. @SeattlePD says it isn’t in anticipation of any protests #KOMONews

UPDATE: Gia Fuda found alive after 8 days. We’re heading to the area where she was located now #KOMONews “It’s a miracle. God blessed this family,” says Jeff, a family friend. He tells us he doesn’t know much more about Gia’s condition other than she survived by eating berries. He and 50 others spent the entire last week searching for, covering hundreds of miles #KOMONews Image

We’re standing by for a media briefing with @MayorJenny and @carmenbest following Saturday’s protest that SPD deemed a riot. These photos show some of what was confiscated, including homemade spike strips, and damage to the inside of a building #KOMONews ImageImageImageImage Starting off, @carmenbest says people threw Molotov cocktails into trailers at the youth jail construction site. She says people in a van then handed out baseball bats, fireworks and face masks near East Precinct, that van was left abandoned #KOMONews Image

As flash bangs erupt on the west side of Seattle Central College, more officers move towards Broadway on E Pine, moving dumpsters that had been put in the street #KOMONews Yet again, officers pull away and make their way towards the East Precinct in this back and forth of sorts. A smaller (for now) crowd is following close behind shouting “go home!” #KOMONews

UPDATE: Near the East Precinct, we’re hearing bangs and seeing smoke. Too far away to tell if they’re fireworks or flash bangs #KOMONews Image More flash bangs being used. A glass bottle just came smashing down near us. No idea where it came from. Group now moving west on E Pine #KOMONews

HAPPENING NOW: As a few hundred protesters march north on 3rd Ave through the Pike/Pine corridor, a convoy of @SeattlePD cruisers follow behind. This group of maybe two dozen people is beginning a march from #CHOP to @SeattlePD West Precinct. The woman leading this is rallying to get others to join in as they get closer to Broadway along E Pine #KOMONews Those in this march stopped at Pine/Boren for a few minutes. A few drivers are getting upset, others trying to turn around like that white Dodge near the beginning of this clip. Now heading north on Boren #KOMONews

Quite the scene playing out now on E Pine between 12th and 13th where a man (who I’m told was kicked out of #CHOP) is now on the roof of a building after breaking in to a nearby apt. @SeattlePD is here. People are on that roof trying to talk that man down #KOMONews Image One officer wants to go in. Another is saying “no.” A neighbor says he’ll escort the officers in. “We know there are armed people in there,” says the officer hesitant to enter. A #CHOP leader is asking people inside the zone to move back right now #KOMONews

It’s by far the quietest I’ve seen #CHOP on a weekday amid conflicting reports that this protest is over. I just spoke with one of the “leaders” who says he and others, like that barricade reads, won’t leave “until their demands are met.” We’ll have more at 5 #KOMONews ImageImageImage Meeting for a “People’s Assembly,” there still seems to be some division among those who remain at #CHOP. One “leader” says the group “must unite as one” and that they’re now pushing for “legislative laws,” will continue to occupy East Precinct #KOMONews
