Yesterday, the @washingtonpost published a dangerous piece of copaganda centered around @MayorBowser’s proposal to increase MPD’s budget & staffing.
The article starts by claiming that the DC council defunded MPD in response to the uprising. This is a lie. THREAD👉🏽
MPD’s budget reduced a little due to ATTRITION—not the Council.
What the council did do is reject the mayor’s increase in police funding in the FY21 budget and only because of INTENSE public pressure in response to police violence and killings. 2/ dcist.com/story/20/07/10…

1/ We just found out that the @WMATA board is considering suspending or banning people from transit after being arrested (not convicted, just arrested) for certain reasons. THAT’S BAD. @charlesallen#defundmpd2/ This potential change would expand police power and grant metro police the authority to detain more people for more reasons.
