#11VecesNo1. The invasion of Mexican embassy:
The first time in almost 50 years that a diplomatic mission in Latin America was invaded by a police and military force with the objective of extraditing Jorge Glas, who was granted political asylum by the Mexican government The only other recorded instance of this happening in the continent was the 1976 invasion of the Venezuelan embassy in Montevideo and the kidnapping of anti-fascist activist Elena Quinteros by the Uruguayan dictatorship. With this act came the widespread condemnation from across the world, as well as the possibility of Ecuador’s expulsion from the UN, and Noboa placed his name firmly alongside the brutal “Plan Condor” regimes of the 1970s and the 1980s.
