This is an important report/FDA petition, but I think it requires some additional context to avoid making the wrong conclusions. Before we consider banning the sale of one of the most beneficial acne treatments, let's review what is actually presented in the report. A thread:
1/8 The premise of this report is that benzoyl peroxide has the potential to thermally decompose into benzene, which has carcinogenic potential (i.e. we don't want it in our skin care products).

The most commonly reported side-effect is mucocutaneous dryness. It is dose dependent, occurring in 75% of those treated with 0.25-0.5mg/kg/day and in nearly 100% treated with 1mg/kg/day. 2/16
