Night class got their first stern lecture from me after their test performance

And it must’ve resonated because I ain’t never seen the whole class listening intently the whole time 😂😂 More or less the same stuff I told my class in the spring, but added in the stuff I’ve been tweeting a lot about lately especially about shying away from hard things

When you challenge people, if they’re worth anything, they will respond.

People bring awareness to things they have no intention of solving themselves. “Spread this to bring awareness to xyz issue”

Ok so when people are aware what’s the next step?

“The fact that brain activity is most intense when people have a growth mindset, shows just how important it is that people believe in themselves and they know that brains can grow and change with hard work.”

youcubed.org/evidence/belie… Phrases that signal a fixed mindset

“I don’t have enough time for”
“I’ve tried and I can’t do this”
“It’s too hard for me”
“I don’t know”
“I can’t make this any better”

Major habit - excuses

“I wanna do *this* but can’t because of *this*”

Do you do this often?

Seems like every time I’ve talked with @uknwhooitis this week I’ve come up with something simple yet important

Here is why the average person will never be happy in graph form.

Let’s compare the sine wave and a semi-logarithmic scale Image (Yes this is actually one of the classrooms I teach out of 😂)

Now.

Sine waves are found all throughout this realm.

They represent real life (more later)

Semi-log graphs are artificial manipulations to make data easier to interpret. But they are not real.

I was walkin to get my car this morn (thankfully shop not too far from my house) and I was thinking about all the life lessons that lab has taught me

I wanna share a story about theory and practice.

Specifically a story about this synthetic step Aight so that step highlighted actually took me about 3-4 months to figure out

The average person won’t know this but when you look at a synthetic scheme, there are months, if not years of effort that went into it

The scheme never does it justice because it’s one step.

Taking the risk out of a risky decision takes away the opportunity for growth that you have from the outcome When you take a risk, you are sacrificing something

Time
Money
Relationship
Reputation

You are putting something on the line that you had to build up

When you try to negate that cost, you pay in the growth that you could’ve gotten and you stay in the same position mentally.

Last time we talked about what the top 5 antibiotic resistant infections are

Today we are gonna talk about what drives antibiotic resistance and current obstacles scientists face in curbing it

We’ll use this paper for reference: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25859123/

#DrTJWrites We actually talked about antibiotics structure but y’all know what I meant 😂😂

Anyway, there are 4 crucial factors that drive antibiotic resistance:

*Human Overuse
*Inappropriate Prescribing
*Agricultural Overuse
*Lack of New Antibiotics being produced

Now that you know what the top 5 antibiotic resistant infections are, let’s keep it goin and talk about the different classes of antibiotics and what they do

I’ll start by listing the top 10 generic antibiotics below 👇🏾

#DrTJWrites I’ll start by listing them below, then organizing them by structural class

1) amoxicillin
2) doxycycline
3) cephalexin
4) ciprofloxacin
5) clindamycin
6) metronidazole
7) azithromycin
8) sulfamethoxazole + trimethoprim
9) amoxicillin + clavulanate
10) levofloxacin

Found this article while I was doing my googles for a company I’m interviewing with this week.
I had no idea that the stretch between Baton Rouge and NOLA was called Cancer Alley by locals because of the elevated risk of cancer from petrochem fumes

amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/n… A lot of people ask my why I didn’t go into big farmuh given my skill set and my honest answer is I have a moral objection to it. (See plannedemic)

However I’d never considered how these petrochemical giants poison people as well

Quick story before I teach my Gen chem minions

So my close people know that I’ve been looking for a new position. I had an interview for a lead chemist position last Friday.

Got feedback from it on Tuesday, and as I thought, it went really well. Specific feedback I got 👇🏾 From the hiring manager:
“I don’t think Tanei would ever let himself down in this position. I’m not worried about our expectations for him. I’m worried about him beating himself up if he doesn’t get something done.

I really like his personality and his charisma. Above all I like

Digging into this later 🤓 Mannnnnn

Lie-zer really had to hire more people to process adverse event reporting because they were getting so many of them that’s wild as fuck.

Dawg if this is legit (not saying it isn’t) this is terrifying

Your blood cells are not supposed to stick together like this. Rouleaux formation prevents proper body oxygenation and is a sign of serious disease or infection

Vcd ppl better hope this is fake. Dawg if your blood cells stick together like that you eventually get into a low oxygen environment then secondary parasitic and bacterial infections can set in

Low oxygen environments also encourage cancer cell growth

And we’ve already seen these reports of cancer rise. Mannnn

I’m fairly sure this storm is right behind the 94 storm in damages given the tweets I’m saying and the vague updates from mlgw.

I really think some folks power won’t be back on until mid next week if not longer When I was driving back home yesterday I ran into this

Lol bruh

Imagine knowing 28 years in advance that weather can bring these kinds of outages and not doing shit about it

Incompetent isn’t enough to describe this. And it is because the city council won’t approve the rate increase to fund burying these cables

If this ain’t enough enough to vote every single one of these people out I don’t know what else is.

$20 max a month extra is well worth avoiding this kind of danger.

Yesterday the department head called me in to his office…

And told me that he wanted me to apply for a tenure track position opening in the fall 😭

“The best way to become a professor is to simply be one. You’ve done that and people have noticed.” I really didn’t wanna go into academia because a growing pool of people are fighting for decreasing resources

But expectations here are realistic.

And I’d get my own lab which is what I’ve always wanted. Next 6 months will be interesting.

Happy thanksgiving 🍽 K417N = lysine > asparagine
E484A = glutamic acid > alanine
N440K = asparagine > lysine
N501Y = asparagine > tyrosine

Hmmmm.

Primary amine to amide. Acid to neutral. Amide to amine. Amide to phenol.

Interesting mutations. A lot of electrostatic changes.
