FL’s Constitution orders the Gov to submit his budget recommendation at least 30 days before session. Since legislators will return to Tally on Jan 11, today the Gov released his rec. for FY 2022-2023. During 2022 session, each Chamber drafts their version of the budget, negotiate, & pass the final “General Appropriations Act”(GAA) for the Gov to sign &/or veto. 2/

The following is a statement from FPI CEO Sadaf Knight following Gov. DeSantis' remarks on his proposed FY 2022-23 budget:

While Governor DeSantis voiced support for continuing the state’s sales tax holidays, research shows that these provide little to no relief for people... ...struggling to make ends meet. Additionally, the temporary $1.1 billion cut to the gas tax, which is not an actual fix to the tax code, will be ineffective in boosting household income for Floridians paid low and moderate wages in the long term.
