Fellow Compatriots,
This is a historic week for our country, as citizens of voting age go out to cast their ballots this weekend to elect our next president and federal parliamentarians who will be expected to make laws for the common good of the land. The same exercise will be repeated for governorship and state houses of assembly in two weeks.

It is a time that requires us all to exercise the highest form of patriotism in our nation-building journey and collective quest for peace and progress.

Every new day is a gift for which we must show appreciation to God. We thank God for the gift of life and the opportunities 2023 presents to us as individuals and as a nation. Last year was, without a doubt, filled with gains and losses. As a country, we experienced a devastating flood that resulted in the death of many lives and the destruction of properties and sources of livelihood of millions of citizens.

My appeal to all Nigerians is to de-emphasize our differences and focus on the issues that bind us. Luckily, we are in an election cycle, so my challenge to the youth is to take charge of their future; by electing those who believe in our unity and will promote peace and progress, not those who will erect ethnic walls and religious barriers among our people.

Happy New Year Dear Compatriots and friends across the world.
This is the beginning of a new journey, a new chapter, a fresh opportunity to start and recover from the losses of 2020. Last year was a challenging year, characterized by tales of misfortunes, deaths and illnesses. It was a tough moment for many homes and families owing to the unfortunate #COVID19 .

Christmas is the day, in the calendar of Christendom, that marks the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. It is a commemoration that connects the world to love, selflessness, sacrifice and solidarity; which are the virtues that Christ unambiguously propagated.

GOODWILL MESSAGE TO UNITED STATES PRESIDENT-ELECT JOE BIDEN AND VICE-PRESIDENT ELECT KAMALA HARRIS

I congratulate President-elect, Joe Biden, and Vice President-elect, Kamala Harris, on their victory at the November 3, 2020 US Presidential election. Their election is not just historic, it is also futuristic in the sense that it gives us a glimpse of what the future will be-a world where race, gender and religion do not matter as much as competence and capacity.

NIGERIA AT 60: WE SHOULD NOT DESPAIR
I congratulate all Nigerians as we celebrate our 60th Independence Anniversary. Today is another unique day in our nation's history. It marks six decades of the anniversary of our self-rule. It is an occasion that commemorates our political freedom.
Sixty years ago, we made a procession of victory, as we bade farewell to colonialism and emancipated our lands from the clutches of servitude.

TRIBUTE TO LATE FLYING OFFICER, TOLULOPE

My heart goes out to the family and colleagues of late flying officer, Tolulope Arotile.
She was a brave patriot who pushed her self beyond limits to demonstrate her uncommon love for our dear nation. In the process, she made us all proud. In 2011 when my administration introduced females into the Nigeria Defence Academy to train as combatants, for the first time, it was to give equal opportunities to all men and women of the armed forces and encourage highly driven female...

It has been a decade since His Excellency President Umar Musa Yar'Adua was snatched by the cold hands of death. On this day, every year, his image fills our consciousness as a mark of  his selflessness, typical modesty and exceptional flair. He was a President like no other who lived and died for the sake of his country. He stood on the side of the people, toiling day and night to make their lives better.

I extend my best wishes to all Christian faithful in Nigeria and around the world as we celebrate this year's Easter. It is a moment of thanksgiving as well as an opportunity to reflect on the benefits of the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. From Holy Scriptures, we understand that the purpose of Christ's death on the cross was to redeem humanity from the bondage of sin, establish His love on us and grant us access to eternal life.

As you expected, my attention was drawn to your apology as expressed in your Sunday @vanguardngrnews column of March 22, 2020. You specifically regretted an article you wrote in 2014 in which you called me all manner of names. The truth Dele is that I never took such criticism from you or any other of my critics personally .
I may have felt bad as a human being, but I assumed that you were driven more by a patriotic feeling to see our nation make progress, than any personal hatred for me.

Today our world faces a global crisis that threatens our peace, hope, and freedoms. Across the globe is the climate of fear,  havoc, and consequences of a new enemy, Coronavirus Disease- COVID - 19. Dear Compatriot, this is not a time to fear or despair; it's a moment of responsibility, courage & faith. It's time to demonstrate good citizenship by yielding to relevant  policies & guidelines put in place by government and its agencies to combat the challenge of COVID- 19.

I congratulate His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri who was sworn in today as the 5th Civilian Governor of Bayelsa State, in compliance with the Supreme court verdict of yesterday, 13th February 2020. As Governor, the responsibility of building hope and sustaining peace across the State now lies on your shoulders.

2020 NEW YEAR MESSAGE

I celebrate with you all for the blessing of a New Year. It is a thing of joy for us as a nation that we have survived until this time as one indivisible entity despite our many national challenges. As citizens of a great nation, we must never be weary of working together towards building peace and entrenching justice in all spheres of our society.

Our universities should produce rational beings that will be able to distinguish between good and bad. It is the responsibility of the universities to create humanists, scientists and engineers with moral and ethical standing. They, in turn, will be the ones to build the robots that would power our industries and our economy, to make the lives of our citizens more meaningful.

Fifty-Nine years ago, we walked into the road of political freedom when the Union Jack was lowered and the Green-White-Green Flag hoisted as the symbol of our sovereignty.
Citizens sang for joy, with heartbeats of hope and eyes flooded with a new vision of liberty and justice. In these past decades, we have lived with the mixed reality of abundance and lack, peace and conflict, hope and despair. Despite the challenges, we have kept faith in the strength of our unity and stood firmly to uphold Nigeria's honour and glory.

To make meaningful progress, Africans must be encouraged to treat one another as brothers and sisters, in love and unity. Relations within and between nations should never be allowed to degenerate to a level where citizens will resort to self help and visit violence on fellow Africans and their legitimate business interests.

The idea of peaceful living is an ideal from which I drew strength and inspiration as a public servant in my country. It is the philosophy to which I have committed myself since leaving office as President of Nigeria in 2015. Promoting peace and supporting efforts toward consolidating democracy in Africa is a commitment to which I will continue to apply my time.

My heart goes out to Chief Reuben Fasoranti and his entire family over the untimely death of his daughter, Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, at the hands of suspected herdsmen. No one deserves to hear such news, not the least being Pa Fasoranti, a man that has given so much to Nigeria and asked so little.

Nobody's Political Ambition Is Worth The Blood of Citizens in Ethiopia or Any Other Nation.

I have long said, believed and practised the principle that nobody's political ambition is worth the blood of any citizen. As such, it bleeds my heart when there is unnecessary and avoidable bloodshed, as has just happened in Ethiopia.
