Scott Morrison is spreading misinformation about our Biloela family.

Please help share these facts:

Priya and Nades came to Australia legally under international laws that give us all the right to seek safety from persecution, no matter how we arrive.

🧵1/ They abided by the conditions of their bridging visas, obeyed Australia’s laws, paid taxes and contributed to our community.

Mr Morrison was asked about our Biloela family on @BreakfastNews this morning.

🧵Here are the facts:

Under Australian law, Immigration Ministers have the power to intervene in any immigration case and grant a visa to stay in Australia if they think it is in the public interest. The Ministers’ power to grant a visa to stay in Australia is completely independent from the decision of any court.

There is no requirement for Priya, Nades, Kopika or Tharnicaa to be formally recognised as refugees for the Ministers to grant a visa to stay in Australia.

Mr Morrison is lying.

His Ministers can grant permanent visas for any reason they want.

But they won't even give QLD-born 4 year old Tharni the same temporary visa they gave her mum, dad & sister.

That's how they're stopping her family coming safely #HometoBilo

#AusVotes2022 "Successive immigration ministers have been able to use their intervention powers to grant the Biloela family visas ever since the very first refusal decision was made many years ago."

- Abul Rizvi (@RizviAbul)
Former Dep. Secretary
Dept of Immigration

During the 2019 election campaign, on QLD-born Kopi & Tharni's 429th day in a Melbourne detention centre, @ScottMorrisonMP told Australians: "ultimately, we've got every child out of detention."

Our Biloela girls were detained for another 669 days on his watch.

1/🧵👇 By day 1198 Tharni was so sick she had to be airlifted from Xmas Island to a Perth hospital. She's still in "community detention".

During the 3 years Kopi & Tharni were detained, MPs & Senators told Parliament & the public there were no kids in detention at least 25 times.

Priya's dear friend Marie has a beautiful Mother's Day message to share. Can you leave your own message in the comments below?
"Today as we honour and celebrate the mothers in our lives, I want to pay special tribute to one very special lady - Priya ... As a mother I know what it means to have this desire to nurture, protect & provide for our children; daring to hope & dream for their future. I can’t begin to imagine having my freedom stripped away & every avenue for me to provide for the wellbeing of my children taken from me.
