How a football player ended a civil war in his country

For the longest time, Indian sportspeople have either stayed away from making any political statements or ended up becoming a part of the govt's propaganda machinery. Remember all the tweets from noted cricketers... 1/n after Rihanna asked why the farmers' protests weren't being discussed enough? I also recall Virat Kohli was "appalled" after the death of an elephant in Kerala. The world talks about Mohammad Ali's huge role in the Civil Rights Movement & Sangakkara's frequent appeals... 2/n

As India witnessed a marginal dip in #Covid19 cases this month, violence against Muslims peaked once again. Here are the incidents from the month of May where either Muslims or their places of worship were targetted. Starting with the most recent ones.

[Thread] On May 30, three children, all minors, of Aqeel Qureshi, an accused in cases of alleged cow sluaghter and buffalo theft in Bulandshahar district, alleged their father was thrown from rooftop in the night by cops, which led to his death a few days later.

A space where we all talk like centrists? Let's also make them the listeners so that they get a taste of banality they peddle every single day. Special guest @UrbanShrink.

My co-host, as always, the ever so wonderful @shehryar_khanum.

Since a lot of you asked me the recipe for Mutton achari biryani, here it is.

Step 1) Prepare yakhni: Pour a litre of water into a pressure cooker. Add 750-grm mutton, an onion cut right down the middle, a garlic bulb, a small piece of ginger, 2-3 bay leaves, black cardamom. 1/n ... 10 cloves. Besides these, take some sauf and coriander in a small piece of clean cloth, tie it properly and leave the bag in the cooker.

Three-four whistles should be enough. However, make sure your meat is at least 70% cooked in yakhni itself. Don't throw this water. 2/n

A few years ago while he was working for Zee News, Rohit Sardana spoke at a dialogue exchange programme, ironically named, "Responsible Journalism for Nation Building". He said he had no qualms acknowledging that his job was similar to that of a "salesman". 1/n Minutes later, he added: "The audience is currently buying Manohar Kahaniya (pulp fiction), therefore we are selling it. The day they ask for Pratiyogita Darpan, we will put that in the market." 2/n

Navika begins her show on a sombre note, recalling how the chair she sits in once belonged to Arnab, who had hired her in one go in August 2005 just before the launch. Oh Dear, it's going to turn bad soon, real bad. Sanskaar, values, customs invoked. She wishes Arnab hadn't forgotten the "human value system" in his "quest for ratings".
