🧵 The word 'Paki' has historically been used in a derogatory manner and has not been used as a term of endearment. The slur was not limited to those of Pakistani origin but anyone with brown skin.
Its origin traces back to the 1960's and 1970's when violent gangs in England who were opposed to immigration in England, would go around 'paki-bashing'. They would carry out violent attacks against people of South-Asian descent and their businesses.
