Hullabaloo on Twitter tonight about this group of foreigners who apparently gathered without masks or social distancing to sing, chant & generally commune at a Bali holistic center this week. Unsurprisingly, they've drawn a lot of angry criticism. This House of Om Instagram post told people to "Invite as many friends & family as you want" to an "Ecstatic Kirtan" with Jermey (sic) & friends on the 18th June - the day Bali logged what was then a one-day record increase of 66 new #COVID19 cases. Prophetic typo? Image

537 Indonesian migrant workers arrived at Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport today. All were returning from cruise ships in the United States. They're coming in through Bali because the majority are said to be from Bali. Yesterday (April 9), Bali Governor Wayan Koster revealed that 15 of Bali's confirmed #COVID19 cases were recently returned cruise ship crew members. Most who tested positive had returned from the United States and Italy.

#COVID19: About 16,000 Aussies have left Indonesia in the past week & more are expected to leave in coming days, but they represent one of the biggest threats to Australia's efforts to "flatten the curve", according to Queensland virologist @MackayIM. Dr Mackay said the closure of Australia's borders had potential to flatten the curve "unless we already have widespread community infection". (Australia let 2700 people off the Ruby Princess in Sydney earlier this month releasing of a wave of 133 cased in the community.)

Indonesia's @kompascom reports Bali was the Indonesian destination visited by a Japanese tourist who fell ill on his return to Tokyo. Report quotes a health official saying man "wasn't infected by #COVID19", he was infected by "SARS-Coronavirus Type 2". sains.kompas.com/read/2020/02/2… @kompascom According to posts I've seen from Australian virologist @MackayIM, it's correct to say someone is infected by the virus that has since 11 Feb been officially called “severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)”. The disease they get from the virus is #COVID19.
