Just think about who we know is more likely to be outside to get to jobs as essential workers right now and what we already know to be statistically true about who’s more likely to be stopped and who’s more likely to wind up dead from these kinds of encounters. #onpoli I get that we’re in a pandemic. I get that people have to stay home, but the mismanagement of political leaders means they can now use THEIR POWER to provide police with MORE POWER. Their incompetence is putting marginalized folks in a different form of DEADLY JEOPARDY.

Teachers: Whether you’re teaching Math or Science or things more obvious like History, English and Social Studies, how can you prepare yourself and reshape your curriculum to support Black Students, Indigenous Students and students from marginalized communities? Is it a YOU issue - what you’re reading, watching, consuming on social media? Are you affected by who you see and don’t see? Are you using examples of Black and Indigenous leaders and concepts? Or is your approach upholding colonial ideals and practices?

THREAD: So I’m a Christian. Have been since I was young enough to make that choice...and then since I was old enough to really know what that choice meant. And I’m nervous as I type this because it’s hard to say that - especially these days. /1 When I started @thefold_, I felt called, which sounds hokey. But it’s true. Like it was what I was meant to do or born to do. But I also felt that I couldn’t be both - an advocate for true inclusion and a Christian. /2

Did you know that in grade nine classes they’re still doing Romeo and Juliet and To Kill a Mockingbird? In Canada? Do you know how many excellent, compelling stories have come out since those books were written? #DiverseCanLit Not to mention the economics of it all. As an example, let’s say they study The Marrow Thieves by @cherie_dimaline instead. Canadian small press, Canadian writer. See how this stirs our economy? See how Shakespeare and Harper Lee won’t even notice??
