Hot take: The reason we keep extending and extending marriage prep is because we have completely failed to integrate vocational prep from the get-go, infused into parish life and our kids' and teens' religious ed. This is negligence. You can't treat teen dating as just this random recreational activity. It's teens doing what they are designed to do, begin discerning who (or Who) they will spend their life with. Either you accompany them or you betray them, period.
