Everyone is in the PR game.

Long term relationships are where PR meets reality and flaws are revealed.

Legendary comedian Chris Rock said - “Relationships, easy to get into, hard to maintain. Why are they so hard to maintain? Because it’s hard to keep up the lie!" He is succinctly highlighting how in the first meeting, the desire to portray oneself in the most desirable (yes, flattering) light, leads to a certain down-weighting of reality.

Expectations are set and standards created to live up to.

We Eat Words.

One day, [Alfred] Korzybski was giving a lecture to a group of students, and
he suddenly interrupted the lesson in order to retrieve a packet of
biscuits, wrapped in white paper, from his briefcase. He muttered that he just had to eat something, and he asked the students on the seats in the
front row, if they would also like a biscuit. A few students took a biscuit.

"Nice biscuit, don't you think", said Korzybski, while he took a second one.

I love @AdContrarian

Thank you for calling out people on their nonsense. We need more people like you.

So as a tribute, I've compiled 15 of favourite quotes from a variety of your books that not only are incredibly insightful but had me rolling on the floor laughing. 1. On hype articles.

"All stories about 'The Death of Something.' Every dimwit desperately trying to get published writes one of these abominations. They are the default 'think pieces' by people who can’t think."

Ever wondered how some people continue to create innovative companies and products?

I did too, then I discovered the Jobs to be Done framework. (#jtbd)

Here's my best quick synopsis of what it is and why it is important:

Cheers @alanklement for introducing me to the idea. 1. What is Jobs to Be Done:

A Job is the progress that an individual is trying to make in a particular circumstance." Clayton Christensen, 2016

A job to be done therefore, is the process a person goes through to transform an existing circumstance into a preferred one.

THREAD - Questions Vs Answers:

Why do we get things wrong all the time? Why is it that smart people regularly get things wrong?

It all lies in the battle between Answers and Questions. When we are confronted with almost any demanding situation, the simple activity of asking questions can help guide us to better decisions.

But, the questions must be useful, the ones that cut to the heart of a complex challenge or enable us to see an old problem in a new light

THREAD - Why we struggle to lose weight, act on our ideas and achieve our goals.

The Information-Action Fallacy:

The assumption is this: If we give people the relevant information, it will change their attitudes, which in turn will change their behaviours. An example: The UK government for years has recommended that adults do at least 150 minutes of exercise a week to stay healthy, yet, 13 million adults were obese as of 2017.

As @sivers said, "If more information was the answer, then we'd all be billionaires with perfect abs.”
