FWIW, PAs are not the enemy. Worth repeating. For the record, the PA role was not developed so doctors can get to clinics, theatres, meet training requirements, etc. The NHS Plan 2000 report recognised 1/ the shortage of human rather than financial resources was the biggest constraint the NHS faced to modernisation and meeting it's needs. The role was developed to 'enhance the capacity of the healthcare workforce to meet the growing demand for healthcare services in UK' 2/
